Today is Eid in the United States, the Muslim holiday that celebrates the end
of Ramadan, which for those of you that don't know, is a holy month of fasting.
May you enjoy the start of Shawwal~
Last of the "Best" polls. Next week is onto our regular programming~
For the josei lovers, check out all our suggestions here:

The only interesting fact I can think of right now is that out of the top 5, I've only read Nodame Cantabile. In fact, I also fansubbed the Paris arc of the series. Bonus points if you know which fansub group I'm in =P
Here are the 5 runner-ups (in this order)
Honey and Clover
Gokusen
Ashita no Ousama
Omae ga Sekai wo Kowashitai nara
7 Seeds
Next week, I will be posting a little Excel chart of all the series that were suggested and their rankings.

I have a feeling there will be some unhappy people with these results. Just realize that if you piss me off too much, I'll take some action and ban you.
ShoujoMagic, one of the oldest shoujo scanlation groups, is planning to
close its doors. They will first release several more chapters that are currently
partially completed, then they're gone for good. The projected closure is in
several months (so think of this as filing for bankruptcy).
Good luck to them all as they move onto bigger and better things
Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle by CLAMP will be ending with its
last chapter in the September 30th issue of Weekly Shonen Magazine,
which is published by [sitelink=publishers.html?id=100]Kodansha[/sitelink].

For readers of the series, you could pretty much tell it was gonna end soon
anyways...
Speculation: xxxHolic going to end soon too perhaps?

They added another chapter, and it'll end October 7 instead

This here's the 3rd poll of the "Best" series! (More a popularity contest than anything though). Got one more to go after this...
If you really like seinen, I ask you to consider reading some of the suggested titles in this thread:
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=13890
One interesting title that was suggested a few times is actually only a oneshot. For a short read that's good (to a lot of people), try out Hotel.
In case you were wondering about the runner-ups, here they are (in order):
Until Death Do Us Part
Gantz
Monster
Bitter Virgin
Black Lagoon
[color=red]Josei[/color]
Next poll we're doing is for josei, so visit this thread here:

On Wednesday afternoon (Sep 9, 2009), [sitelink=publishers.html?id=234]TokyoPop[/sitelink] hosted their second "TokyoPop Insider" industry webcast to share what's new, what's coming soon, and what's going on at this Los Angeles-based manga publishing company. TokyoPop announced 10 new licensed and original manga titles for 2009 - 2010, including three new titles in the .hack// series and two new original graphic novels based on massively popular World of Warcraft / Starcraft games from Blizzard.
By Popular Demand, Seven Fan Favorites Return
After TokyoPop's restructuring in June 2008, several ongoing series went on hiatus, leaving many fans wondering when (or if!) the latest volumes of their favorite manga would be published.
In recent months, TokyoPop has been slowly adding these delayed titles back into their release schedule. Last month, they announced the return of fan favorites like Aria, V.B. Rose and Tactics. Now seven more titles are due back from limbo land in mid-2010. They are:
* [Suppli](http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=3725) Volume 4 by [OKAZAKI Mari](http://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=223)
* [Pick of the Litter](http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=2746) Volume 5 by [SUDA Yuriko](http://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=1442)
* [Monochrome Factor](http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=4206) Volume 5 by [SORANO Kairi](http://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=1185)
* [Never Give Up!](http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=317) Volume 9 by [MUTOU Hiromu](http://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=217)
* [Nosatsu Junkie](http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=5451) Volume 7 by [FUKUYAMA Ryoko](http://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=1675)
* [Satisfaction Guaranteed](http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=763) Volume 8 by [SAENAGI Ryou](http://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=12)
* [King of Hell](http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=1686) Volume 23 by [Ra In-Soo](http://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=1406) and [KIM Jae-Hwan](http://www.mangaupdates.com/authors.html?id=1407)
As TokyoPop Editor Lillian Lillian Diaz-Przybyl explained it, "We work so far in advance, it'll be at least mid-2010 until these books can come out. But this is just the beginning of titles that we'll be bringing back."

If you haven't noticed, this [color=red]IS[/color] a popularity contest.
This here is poll number 2 of our series of "Best" polls! This time around, we got shoujo! Thank you to the 150 people who gave shoujo series suggestions that deserve to be named the best. And curse those people whose posts that I deleted because they didn't follow my rules. Again, if your favorite series isn't up there, sucks for you. You may think it's the best, but not everyone else thinks the same way. Also again, this poll is not up for discussion on our forums. By the way, some great titles that didn't make the top 5 were suggested, so if you're an avid shoujo reader, I really do recommend you check out the other series in this thread:
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=13775
As an interesting side note, I only haven't read Mars. And I know which series will win without even doing this poll...
I would also like to thank the many people who for the first time made a post on our forums just to make some suggestions~
In case you were wondering, the five runner-ups are as follows (in this order):
Hana Yori Dango
Koukou Debut
Basara
Beast Master
Cat Street
If you're wondering how a particular series did, just PM me.
For the next poll, we're doing seinen series. Make your suggestions here:

Question: Best Shounen
Choices:
One Piece - votes: 4138 (28.5%)
Fullmetal Alchemist - votes: 3455 (23.8%)
Death Note - votes: 2917 (20.1%)
Great Teacher Onizuka - votes: 2180 (15%)
Claymore - votes: 1812 (12.5%)
There were 14502 total votes.
The poll ended: September 5th 2009
And we got a winner! One Piece it is! Notice that Naruto and Bleach aren't up there...
As an interesting side note (again), Claymore is the highest rated series out of all those choices, yet it didn't garner as many votes
This is the first poll of our new series of "Best" polls. If you don't like the choices, suck it up. No one is forcing you to vote. And it's probably your own fault for not giving a suggestion in the first place (as only about 60 people gave suggestions). Oh, and this poll is not up for discussion (on the forums) for the fear of bashing/flaming.
If you're wondering how we chose the 5 titles in the official poll, look here:
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=13659
For our next poll, we will be having the best shoujo! If you have a favorite shoujo series, you'd better make your suggestion here:
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=13775
(And if you don't follow the directions exactly, may God have mercy on you, because I won't)
Previous Poll Results:
Question: Do you think a mangaka should have multiple projects or only focus on one?
Choices:
The more the better - votes: 559 (4.6%)
As long as what I'm reading doesn't suffer as a result - votes: 8369 (69.1%)
Only one at a time! - votes: 2109 (17.4%)
Doesn't matter to me - votes: 1067 (8.8%)
There were 12104 total votes.
The poll ended: August 29th 2009
We all knew who would win (since it's the most neutral option), but a good amount still prefer having an author work on one series at a time
Yup, you read it correctly. The series To-LOVE-Ru - Trouble - written by HASEMI Saki and drawn by YABUKI Kentaro is ending in the next issue of Shonen Jump (published by [sitelink=publishers.html?id=163]Shueisha[/sitelink]) on August 31st. Whether this will be like Mx0 is up in the air...
You can read more about it on AnimeNewsNetwork.
So should a mangaka work on multiple series at a time? Or should they finish one before starting another? I'm gonna bet that most of you will say that as long as the series that you are reading doesn't go down the drain because of split resources... Oh, and this poll was suggested by KennEH.
You can discuss this poll on our forums here:
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=13658
Next week's poll (and several subsequent ones) will be in a different format. This was inspired by LifeHacker. Please visit this thread for more details:

Most of us apparently started reading manga around the teenage years. For those of you who are a lot older, I wonder how you were introduced to manga in the first place...
