Adventure with slices of life: Uneven story

"Deatch March" is a story about the most overpowered guy ever. Superman and Lord Ainz (Overlord) are small bugs comparing to Satou. Main character is accompanied by very overcrowded harem composed of two circles of initiation. We have few genres mixed in: mainly fantasy, science-fiction and RPG.
Author looks to be a big fan of OTAKU culture and western-like movies. So the one tried to copy a lot of romantic and non-romantic events in one story. The effect is average as writer sometimes did not have a time or good ideas to provide story based on these events with his own reason.
WN main plot which is searching demons attacks mastermind is slow but quite interesting and surprising. Additionally "Death march" is interesting thanks to many overlapping subplots. But its quality is uneven. At the begining it is much better and more detailed then anime/manga based on LN. It is thanks to higher difficulty. In more or less half volumes Satou is not omnipotent and invincible. He makes mistakes during fights and another activities. Some background characters die.

We learn about Satou gaining skills, knowledge and items. Authors describes part of crafting processes and business creation process. You can find great description of battles and other events that make you impossible to stop to read a story.
But with time there are more and more places where WN looks like simple blueprint or just an event record of future LN. Almost every meal is described with repetitive details but battles and parts of main and secondary plots are shortened or rather cut. It looks like: "good gay fights with evil one and..... they lived happily ever after". There are sentences like "I dealt with them" or "I help them" as the most description of a fight. It is the same in a case of other events.
There are really too many secondary and tertiary characters. Author appeared to be unable to handle them as some subplots has withered or they was ongoing somewhere in a not described background. I think that to describe adventures of everyone there should be ten times more text.
Satou loves only one women but story is created with a way that main romantic subplot justifies and enforces harem on him. Except of his beloved one Satou see women in 2 categories: good for s*x (in practice: prostitutes) /not good for sex. Author could not decide if main character is dense idiot or not, So sometimes Satou notices that he attracts another gender and sometimes he is more then stupid. In general his relations with harem are unrealistic, artificial and strange.
Translation is a bit above average.
I like "Death March" in general. Just be warned that from time to time you may be disappointed of some stupid statements or underdeveloped events.

Frustrating

I admit, i just started reading. BUT, it's annoying me a lot how the MC acts. He say to everyone that he's a merchant but i've never seen he carrying something to sell, he has lots of gold(don't need to be a merchand anyway) but buy a damn cane that looks more of a mage than the one with stats. Besides, he kill a god in level 1 but struggle to kill a level 60 demon in lv 310. And I can't endure he wasting skill points so carelessly -_-.

Was pretty good in the beginning

This story was pretty good in the beginning and the MC was cool since hes really op and such. What really makes this series go downhill halfway through is pretty much how the author tries hard to make it funny every time the little girls get jealous when an older lady more of the MC's preference gets close to him. He denies he's a lolicon, but he admits that he would let a little girl sleep with him instead of someone older. I find this very hypocritical. I understand the the author is really trying hard to make this funny at times, but it becomes really repetitive reading it over and over and he doesn't even try to adjust it as the story goes. It's the same pattern, introduce someone new, they get close the little girls block it off. It's alright in the beginning, but it's like beating on a dead horse. Also the main story in like some have said, pretty much a slice of life and the MC's adventure to find food. There are times where the story kinda progresses, but it seems the MC gets more naive each time. Also if the author is trying to make this a harem, then at least make the MC act like one. He treats all the women around kindly, but at arms length. I understand you are not trying to be lolicon, but seriously try to make the MC not so dumb as the story progress.

Not LN for everyone, but love on first sight for me

Ok, this is definitely in my top 10 light novels/mangas I ever read.
A lot of people are complaining about missing plot or how MC acts, but from my point of view that is what makes this LN great, no stupid enemy to defeat, no annoying quests to complete, no boring training arcs or fights, MC just enjoy exploring new world, meeting new people, killing some annoying "bugs" from time to time and so on. Not everyone wants to rule, be the best or be famous, he just wants to enjoy life in his own way and thanks to his strength he can do so and that is what this is about.
Regarding his harem, well there is barely any ecchi and if you consider his age in new world and age of girls it fits, if they were older it would be extremely weird, they are at max 2-3 years younger (ok, except for Nana) than him, some are even older, he is 15, in world that can be mostly approximated by middle age it is perfectly reasonable! Not to mention he doesn’t see them as love/sex interest, he sees them as family, some sort of mix between sisters and daughters.
so...
- do you want complex story or some "final destination"? Go somewhere else!
- want epic fights? Go somewhere else!
- want stupid training arcs? Go somewhere else!

- want relaxing and enjoyable story about exploring other world and interacting with people without much stress and worry? This is perfect for you!

Its a nice read with a cool world but the author has a habit of not fully describing certain things like not letting us know what some abilities exactly do and leaving some scenes to our imaginations I dont know if its just lazy writing but I would like to get more details on some stuff but overall its a great read the mc is op af and u can tell hes a pretty smart person but hes not really all the interesting personality wise as for the other character I can say I dislike anyone. A lot of character in his harem have very particular character traits. I love Nana and her odd provocations and her weird oppression with young organisms, Karina and her unreasonable shyness at the most unusual times, Pochi and her cuteness, ninja Tama FTW, yandere Lulu. It has a few flaws but its definitely a good read

Since I discovered this novel, I read it again and again. The OP MC is taking the adventure as a holiday from his work. He taking a world tour for sightseing while fighting demon in the shadow.

He simply doesn't want to be know as an hero since it will make him more trouble than benefit.

The point of view writing style is great. I enjoy it a lot. It give another perspective of each event. Don't pass on the bonus chapter. Most of them are great and add to the background story.

Just take this novel as a diary of a japanese tourist taking day off work exploring a new world.

Everyday life of a person transported to a game

Title pretty much sums up the plot of this LN.

Satou travels around in the game world solving problems and eliminating demons, evil plots and corrupt officials as well as bring his harem to grind for exp and level up. He normally goes by the name of Satou however he has a couple of aliases he'd use to disguise himself especially for when involved in major demon plots since he is quite overpowered and wants to avoid garnering too much attention as Satou. There is technically a main storyline however the side tracking is predominant in this LN and up till the 10th volume, little progress is made on the plot of demons, gods and other transported heroes/humans. Too much time spend on "side quests", "sight-seeing" and "improving the lives of less fortunate settlers/villages" in addition to the countless "cooking & tea time" scenes as well as some focus on the lackluster crafting system for gear and magic(it had potential however author did not expand much on crafting aspect which end up being a case where the MC just pulls OP crafted items out of his ass, no concrete explanation or backstory). So its no wonder nothing much gets done in terms of the main storyline.

Of course nothing is complete without the sideline of picking up a harem of mostly loli girls(to his chagrin) ranging from reincarnated person to beast girls to elves and even homunculus etc. Along the way he gets acquainted with and captured the heart of a few other female heroines though they end up not travelling with him. He does visit and keep in touch. Although he has a troupe of lolis travelling with him most of the time, aside for party grind arcs and tea time/cooking scenes, most of the screentime is on him acting alone as himself or in his various aliases while his harem is somewhere on standby.

What separates this LN from others is how much freedom the MC can afford. He is not tied down by heavy responsibilities nor has any obligations forced upon him like saving the world or being used by others etc. He just do what he wants, hence the slice of life theme.

Pretty mundane story and again its more of a slice of life, nevertheless a reasonable read if you got nothing else to do.

TLDR; Too much slice of life theme and side tracking, too little actual adventuring and advancing main plot.

Yes. It has no actual plot. There are some fights and stuff, but it really is just following daily life of this OP character. It has almost no tension.
It's best to treat this series as a lighthearted adventure.

The only complain is just the number of loli. (Although the MC himself prefer big breasted girls. haha)

Just skip it over

It really isn't hard to impress me. I see a gary stu MC, and I usually love reading those. However, this MC really isn't all that interesting. Usually a series with and overpowered MC, in another world, adventure and what not is always interesting to me. Like MT, datta slime, ATG, and many other series. However this one is special. It's very, and I mean very boring.

I read up to volume two chapter 17, and the way the MC carries himself is utterly terrible. If I had an overwhelming amount of power, sure I'd hide my secrets, but at the same times I would not bother exposing it if the time was crucial.

Ok I know this might be a slight spoiler, but I really recommend you read this spoiler just to see how the MC handles this certain situation. It does spoil any plot points.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Alright, so the main character is probably a massive hypocritical f***. Let me tell you why, in the very first chapters he uses a map annihilating spell to absolutely kill an entire race of legendary monsters. This causes his level to skyrocket to and unprecedented level. Now I personally don't mind that he became a level 310, but what I do mind is what happens a bit more chapters in. He comes across a demon, and bunch of soldiers and magic users are fighting this lvl 50? something demon. They are getting wrecked. The MC decides to jump in, now he doesn't have an obligation to help, but he has now initiated that he is going to help. First of all for a gaming programmer or expert on games. He obviously doesn't understand how combat works. This guy is just doesn't want to stick with one fighting style, no he has to use 20 different styles. Bow, shield, sword, spear, axe, club... you get it? Now this isn't a problem, it's just that the action scene that I imagined wasn't enticing.
Now he could of just unleashed some of his power, prevented casualties and be done with it. Although something really bad happens. He decides to instead pin the monster down, let the soldiers who were getting slaughtered launch an attack to kill it. Why? BECAUSE HE DOESN'T WANT TO KILL, HIS SO CALLED "JAPANESE MANNERS" AS HE SO PUTS IT HIMSELF, DOESN'T LET HIM KILL. What the hell happened to the mass genocide you committed to the legendary dragons? because he certainly didn't give a s**t about that. Hell he collected the corpses. After that the demon self detonates, kills a lot of soldiers and magic users, and ends up posses someone later on to kill even more people... Ugh most thing I hate are people who don't follow through, are hypocrites, and choose to be ignorant because they have some bulls**t ideals.

Also I think the main character is a pedo or something. Sure loves to keep a couple of 10 year old slaves around.

Tl biggrin r, A moronic MC, who is a potential pedophile adventures around a world where there is no plot. Also easily the most boring novel I have read.
