The drama here is HIGH. And the first major conflict... really could have been resolved with basic communication. But oh well, that's yaoi. Also very yaoi, there was a lot of sex during which one party said "no," "please stop," etc. but it was okay because they really "wanted it" but were "too embarrassed." There were also a few weirdly homophobic comments, like suggesting that being a bottom meant giving up his manhood? But oh well.
It definitely won me over, because as much as the drama was over the top, I'm a sucker for a good whump, and I was able to suspend my disbelief and just enjoy the angst. And their sad backstories were at least original enough that the details caught me off guard.
Don't expect a literary masterpiece, but I definitely found myself grinning at the sweet parts.
