Amano Ichigo is a 14-year-old cake lover. After meeting a lecturer, Henrie Lucas, at a cake buffet, she enters St. Marie Academy - a school that raises and cultivates patissiers. It's a cutesy shojo about a girl that likes to bake. For some reason I love manga like this, so I had a good time.

This manga was pretty adorable, and since I watched it as a kid, I liked it a lot more than I would've had I watched it recently.

For one thing, this manga actually FOCUSES on making sweets (which i love ), not romance and angst. So if you came here expecting to read about the couples' struggles with gourmet as a background thing, don't read this. (And I personally think that if you prefer reading about couples rather than the gourmet itself, why not just read any other cliche shoujo?) Also, the treats are so nice to stare at that I think I gained 10 pounds from just reading this manga...

Anyways, it's adorable--and a bit similar to Shugo Chara in terms of the basic structure. smile

Cute shoujo

But I'd say it's most enjoyable if you're younger than 14. This is because the immaturity of the heroine who is hardworking and imaginative but clumsy and cries easily might get annoying if you're older. However, it's still a pretty good shoujo compared to quite a few others; the focus of cooking is present throughout (unlike some other shoujo that veer off), the art is cute and the characters are quite interesting albeit a bit cliched. If you enjoy manga like Kitchen Princess, Shugo Chara and Mixed Vegetables you'd probably enjoy this one as well.

I love this manga, especially because I am planning on going to culinary school for pastry. It feeds so many of my favorite aspects of a manga. It's funny, the main girl is hard working yet klutzy(like me! biggrin the klutzy part anyway.), it has a soft dose of magic that doesn't feel to unbelievable, and it actually has taught me some things! I have the same love to make people happy with sweets and I just love the entire manga. It's a big big recommendation for any lover of anything cute and especially for those who bake.

This is one of those super-cutesy stories for young girls. The main character, Ichigo ("Strawberry") has a great sense of taste and is spotted by an elite chef, who recommends her to a French cooking school in Japan. There she meets three handsome guys (who are in her group) and a "sweets fairy" named Vanilla. Fortunately, Ichigo is not the annoying type who gives up and gets depressed all the time-- she's more like the clueless innocent type who has to be given advice constantly.

The series has her going through all of the usual trials: being the newbie who messes up, being bullied, having her ideas stolen, getting depressed and wanting to quit, and so on. There is a hint of romance (as with all series of this sort) and you can tell which guy it's going to be pretty early on ^_^.

It's nothing particularly exciting or special, but it is lots of fun, and they take care to describe several delicious desserts in detail. The mangaka is the same as the one for Saint Dragon Girl, so if you like that series you'll probably like this one.
