[Review after reading 3 chapters. Will update again after ~20 chapters for a better review]
I didn't think too much of this series until I actually started reading it. From the first chapter I was quite engrossed. The female lead (Chise) is a person who's got nothing to live for. She was at a point where she didn't care for life or death. The male lead (Ellias) is a bit of a mystery. Not a whole lot is said, other than that he is a sorceror, and that he seems to be quite well respected (This is partially an inferrence).
In the past 3 chapters, the author has been unveiling a fascinating world which co-exists with the one we all know. It's introduced a few different species of creatures (won't spoil what), and a couple of characters who may play large roles in the story once it begins to unfurl in earnest.
Characters
Can't comment on the characters, since I don't expect much depth in 3 chapters (but I feel from what I've read that the mangaka has the ability and the desire to give some real depth to the characters. A little was given to Chise already.)
Art
Art so far has been good. It's not as good as I've seen in some manga (Shingeki no Kyoujin) but is well above average in my experience. It does well to give life to the characters and the environment, but I do feel a little something is missing at the same time.
Story
Main plot of the story has been set, so we know what this is headed towards. Chapter 3 laid down some of the roadworks for the future. The main story of chapter 3 made me feel like this should be a seinen instead of shounen, but oh well. There's plenty of series that I'm surprised with being shounen already so I won't dwell on that. Won't comment too much, since I've only read 3 chapters, and it would be premature (and impossible) to say much about how well the story is being done. There are comedic moments in the story, which I think are done well.
Hmm.. Did I miss something..? Oh that's right! Ellias is a demon/spirit/monster thing?? Now I've read plenty of shounen-romance manga, so I'm pretty confident when I say, not many have one of the main characters being some kind of beastly demon looking thing. Sure there's one monstergirl haremy type manga, ones with vampires, demons/demon lords, etc etc. But they all still have some semblence of looking human (except the monstergirls I guess..). I find it refreshing to see this beauty and the beast style characterization. And since chapter 2 killed off my whole "This is gonna be a guy in a mask, isn't it?" fear, I'm enjoying the fresh coupling (Even if it's a fake sense of freshness, I'll take it).
To be edited in the future [Assuming it doesn't get dropped for some unfathomable reason]
