Bride of the Water God

Description

When Soah's impoverished, desperate village decides to sacrifice her to the Water God Habaek to end a long drought, they believe that drowning one beautiful girl will save their entire community and bring much-needed rain. Not only is Soah surprised to be rescued by the Water God-instead of killed-she never imagined she'd be a welcomed guest in Habaek's magical kingdom, where an exciting new life awaits her! Most surprising, however, is the Water God himself... and how very different he is from the monster Soah imagined.

I'm no fan of manhwa, but i think this is the best manhwa i've ever read. Of course if i compare to manga, manhwa is still lacking in many points. Especially the story telling, most of manhwa storry telling is a mess. They only good in art. I often confused and annoyed when read a manhwa, so that's why i don't like it.
But this manhwa has interesting plot, good story telling (compare to other manhwa), the artwork is beautiful. Although still need to build the emotional attachment of the readers, and of course, the story telling, cause i still didn't get in this point and that point... I also expect the development of characters (not just drawing bishie(s), more emotion and rational)..., more intrigue n creativity, and so on.
So far so good for manhwa..
The story is typical Korean's. 2 handsome and outstanding guys. One is really kind and suportive. One is playing a role to bully the heroine. And the bullier usually is the one the heroine will fall at the end, but then the heroine will know he love other girl... (at first). And at the end, the guy will fall in love with the heroine. Another idea, please.

what i mean is... umm, when u read or watch any korean's drama story. The big frame n the flow of the story always have 2 princes charming. Seriously, they're handsome, charming, rich, kind, very skillful or talented, and they're in love with the heroine, one of them which ended to be the heroine likes, already loved or had someone in the past... and so on. that's what i mean to be get another idea. Cause korean's story always like that... Examples; Full House (manhwa n tv series), promise (manhwa), witch yoo he (tv series), hot bloded woman (the 2nd arcs of the manhwa), n many others i can't remember. Not to mention other characeristics, such as one usually the heroine thinks as a good friend, actually always used her or play fooled with her... In this case Mura.
Anyway, the story had already been written, i don't think it's insulting but.. just hope if i told my opinion, it can improve the creativity of koreans author. In case of fortunate event, they looked at this site...
I tried to objectively judge, the (+) n (-). Well, if there's no critics and the author thinks that everyone had already been satisfied then there will be no impovement..
I would really glad if u could tell me, some interesing manhwa (genre: drama/romance) that has unique or different storyline, i'll read it.
I'm sorry if i get too analytical, but it will be wrong if i compare manhwa to manga, i guess just read and enjoy it..
But still, it's the best for manhwa. Honestly said, this is the first time i'm really admired manhwa. The artwork is awesome. And i also support this manhwa to be released in my country, so that i can add it to my collections.
o yeah, shin angyo onshi is good in term of the story. it's quiet 'heavy' but it's shounen manhwa. If u like manhwa, u can try to read it.

Beautiful art but bad way of storytelling ?

I finally have 10 volumes of the story so far and only now is my interest peaking up again. During the early volumes (like 1 and 2), I was interested in it because...well, a gorgeous water god with a curse and a human bride? Seems like a romance I wanted to see. But then things gets confusing as the author throws in some mystery and suspense that doesn't give away much so then your just pissed off cause you reallyyyy don't understand anything that's going on, with people saying mysterious things and acting strange. The author doesn't show you something that makes you GASP! Just the people saying strange stuff and doing strange things, but you don't know HOW it's suppose to be shocking because you DON'T understand what's going on.
Furthermore, the people are beautiful but sometimes, you just can't distinguish them apart. I've only started to see some differences. And I've come to realize that the characters themselves don't have much emotions. Their face expressions doesn't change much even though they are 'shock' or 'surprise'. Well, Soah seems to have some expressions but everything else just seems to be wanting to maintain a cool look.
And so, we come to volume 10 (well, 8-10, but mostly just volume 10). This is the volume that FINALLY reveals most of the mystery, like what the heck did the Emperor wanted and why & these other things. It is only on this volume that we are given the clue that a god war is coming, which will be the bigger purpose of this book, I suppose. The romance between Soah and Habaek finally moves forward as well in this volume.
But this author seems dedicated to just make the fans pull their hairs out because it looks like this war and the people in it, with their deceiving and betraying ways, and fate, are just out to separate Soah and Habaek. As much as I'm loving the beautiful gorgeous art (THE most gorgeous art I've ever seen), the storyline is moving a little bit too slow, with too much political drama with too little romance (which is really what most of us wants to see, not the political fights). I'll have to read on to see if the romance is shown more, but at least at this point, I'm a bit interested again, due to the political oncoming fight. The political stuff solves some of the mystery back in the earlier volumes, so yeah.

Beautifully confusing

The art and illustrations in this manga are luscious. Unfortunately, the story doesn't match up to the same standards. The story is quite confusing in a lot of areas and many things continue to be shrouded in unnecessary mystery. The characters are all pretty to look at but suffer from poor development. I would like to know how and why Habaek came to love Soah and many of the other characters' motivations. At the end of the day I'd rather read a scarcely drawn manga with a good plot rather than beautiful art with little substance.

I love the artwork of this manga~ it's really detailed and the story is romantic and at times really funny, but can be very confusing for some.... but I really love this manga...

I have officially stopped reading the scans to encourage myself to buy the manhwa. The only reason why it doesn't deserve a perfect 10 is the lack of consistancy in the plot which makes it confusing at times.
Go buy it.
Now.

the art is lovely.The storyline is somewhat bittersweet but if you dont pay attention to it you'll end up all confused...as for me i understood it better the second time around...coz i kinda got lost with the beautiful sceneries drawn....
do give this manhwa a try!! ^^

it's pretty good and the art is fantastic. you really have to pay attention otherwise you'll get lost. it happened to me a few times. so, that's probably my only complaint about the manga. the story is a bit hard to follow sometimes.

OMG! IT'S NOT GOOD, IT'S...JUST AWESOME, I mean...Everytime I read one page I just get a nice feelin' because the art is just great, so pretty and has a lot of style, yeah soah's hair is way too long (needs a cut but wtf, I like it). Miu/Habaek, yeah he's really sexy...Adult and child, I love the art....and it's not too difficult to know if its present or past..

I can picture everything in my mind when I read it and it's just amazing... (I don't want to see an anime or something like that because it would be a turn off for the art, that's just me :/!).

Apart of the art, the story is just great this is a story, it's not like: moe kare, kaikan phrase, AAA, etc. this is a REAL story, it's simple as this: put a girl who's going to marry by force to a stranger...the guy ends up bein' really hot by surprise of the girl, and they fall in love (not too fast, and to the point you'll be all 'man, just tell her! TELL HER! freakin' tell her). Ok, now thew hot guy has an ex-beloved, and put so more stuff...just to make a impossible love...

it's just a piece of work.

i agree with everything akaikasai said.you cant just flip through the pages and expect that it would still be in the same thing.
and as of what akaikasai described that the girl gets forced to marry and falls in love with the guy,but the guy is chasing another girl...doesnt that remind you of Goong?
but yes,bride of the water god is the most beautiful [in my opinion] manhwa out there.i definately recommend this.and for the art,its gorgeous,indeed :]
