I want a manga/mahwa/manhua that can make me go like that.

What I'm looking for is a series that contains a character that has befriended the protagonist pre or during story that seems like an all around genuine and decent person. We see them practically all the time and we might even form a bond with them. However, they have a dark side to them.

Perhaps they're kneeling before a complete monster villian or are that villian. Or they are a Poisonous Friend that while not working for the dark side might as well because their existence is like a malignant tumor. Dramatic irony builds until the audience feels like self-combusting or they have mixed feelings toward the character.

I'm not looking for a character that regrets their actions though. Maybe they enjoy spending time with the protagonist and his/her groupies, but it doesn't change that they're evil. To be clear, I'm not looking for a series with highly idealistic characters that cannot be disillusioned.

Someone like Xellos From Slayers works nicely but I want a much darker tone and that they were/are friends with the lead. I enjoyed writing this but I hope it isn't too much of an eye-full. 😛

The relationship of Baam and Rachel slowly develops into this in Tower of God.

I'd say Elfen Lied but

that's because she suffers from a sort of double personality and Mirai Nikki maybe.

Last Game that poor prince boy is together with them but always makes (love) life hard for the two protagonists... I really wanted to knock him out at some point ><

Arisa had the urge to punch her twin sister's boyfriends as soon as I saw him... and of course he got friends with her... they can't see his evilness ><

Hantsuki the doctor... ok she doesn't know better, but really... >:-(

2nd Mirai Nikki, there are a few occaisons, but apart from her, you wouldn't call then freinds...

Well Soul Eater has one of those, but maybe more insane than evil?

Give Angel Sanctuary a try.

Swweeet the guy is friend with this girl. who is weird to say the least. and this girl is 'friend' with another girl, who is cruel to her. i actually like the characters as they are good in the story, but you might differ.

Hana wa Knife o Mi ni Matou the girl may be even worse than the friend.

Kakumei no Hi not a villainous reference, but can you really stay friends who just want to get under your pants?

Boku to Kanojo no XXX it is played for laugh, but personally i think all the people surrounding the protagonist are cruel and manipulative.

I second Angel Sanctuary

Also try
Banana Fish - Honestly I loved Ash to bits, but he is a trained killer, and can be very ruthless so definitely sits in the grey area in terms of morality.

Sanctuary - Again, very morally grey with two childhood friends wanting to change Japan for the better, but not really caring how they go about doing it.

Vampire Juujikai - You can't help but love Akabara, but he committed some great sins in the past so might fit. I will say this, when I finished this manga I felt nothing but the deepest sympathy for him, but I'm a sucker for angsty, tragic, morally ambiguous characters.

Kuroshitsuji - Sebastian is great, but a demon. And Ciel is adorable, but ruthless. This isn't so dark, so read it when you want to stick with the same theme but lighten the tone a little.

Let Dai - Dai is a complete b*****d, but in an endearing way.

What I pleasant surprise. I didn't expect anyone to reply.

@Ashoka

I've heard a lot about the Tower of God but never really dove into it. I'll give it a chance. Thank you.

@reid1

I agree with Elfen lied. Too bad that I've read all of it though. I only need to catch up with Mirai Nikki Thank you for your time.

@Lorska

I haven't read Last Game and Hantsuki. I remember Arisa being something like this, but I stopped reading it after chapter 3. I'll go back to reading it at some point. Thanks for the reply.

@007demosthenes Soul Eater 😕 Well I suppose it does fit though I've only watched the anime and read three chapters of the manga. Taking this up again would be nice. Thanks.

@scarletrhodelia I'm not big on incest but a lot of people seem to like it so I'll look past that.

@whitespade I remember reading Swweeet and I don't recall why I stopped. As for the others I'll look into them.

@strixflash I haven't started reading it yet but I thought I rather daringly put it on my lists. This is a great reminder to read it.

@CuthienSilmeriel I've started reading Banana Fish. I'll look into the others concerning the gray morality. I agree with you 100% about Let Dai it doesn't help that he expects the worst out of others as well.

@mangafan321 and royalon06. Two things to put on my lists. Also I know the feeling that's why I had to get help. 🙂

Hmm...

Bokura no Kiseki
Koori no Mamono no Monogatari
Petshop of Horrors

I know I know more! Probably even fits better... but can't remember so it can't be helped.
