I'm taking a break reading bl mangas, but i really can't bring myself to read shoujo. the romance there is either too childish or unrealistic to me. (or do i just keep reading the bad ones? i dunno)
so yeah, pretty much new to the jousei genre, any suggestions for a good jousei manga? the ones that is mature about dealing with stuffs, and none of those frivolous happenings in shoujo. i also would like it pretty short like, 20 chapters and below only. thanks a lot 🙂 😁

Yuru Koi
Kuragehime
Shuukatsu!! - Kimi ni Naitei
Nounai Poison Berry
Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan
My Girl (Sahara Mizu)
Baby Pop
Kiss and Never Cry
some of these are labeled otherwise, but still give a bit of a josei feeling and are enjoyable 😀
also, even though like one chapter is out, keep an eye on Mizutama Puzzle, which is made by famous bl mangaka hidaka shouko XD

Hagoromo Mishin by KODAMA Yuki
Beautiful tale about a swan and her saviour.

Dark, yet hopeful Science-fiction romance.
Game Over (MIZUTANI Fuka)
Sweet story about a couple with an age gap.
Body & Soul by SAKURAZAWA Erica/ TERAKADO Takumi

I think you're just reading the bad shoujo. I don't venture into that territory myself unless I trust the author. Non-frivolous shoujo with great character, dialog and deep exploration of relationships, while being comedic as well? Principal by Ikuemi Ryo.
Also a lot of my group's projects are Josei. Some interesting series out of the lot would be:
3 AM Dangerous Zone by Nemu Yoko
& by Okazaki Mari
Futago by Iketani Ricaco
Natsuyuki Rendezvous by Kawachi Haruka
Sekine's Love by Kawachi Haruka
Teke Teke Rendezvous
Check them out if you get a chance. I don't think you'll regret it for an instance. 🙂

but I do agree she has good taste. Definitely read &
Teke teke rendezvous is very funny. Anything by Sahara Mizu, Konno Kita, Yoshinaga Fumi, Yamashita Tomoko and Tanikawa Fumiko is awesome.
Check them out =p
The moonrunes transmogrifier. Equally well-versed in both the art of reading Japanese and of writing English, the elusively rare Translator deciphers the cryptic, alien markings on the Raw Provider’s artifacts. They understand these hieroglyphs that befuddle most who seek their secrets, and transforms them into the tongue of the common man.

Here are a few recommendations, but I can't promise they are 20 chapters or less (in fact, most have more chapters, but that's not always a bad thing right?) 🙂
-Futago
-Ojikoi (age gap): currently only has 9 chapters scanlated
-Taiyou no Ie (age gap)
-Orange Marmalade
-My Hero
-Love So Life (age gap): one of my favorites! 😃
-Kore wa Koi no Hanashi (age gap): another one of my favorites! 😉
-Bitter Virgin
-Eden no Hana (age gap)
-Hana no Namae
-Sweet II: story one (age gap)
-Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan: sentimental
-Midori no Hibi
-Koi Kaze: age gap+ incest

Hirunaka no ryuusei --> teacher/student relationship
Nodame Cantabile --> college music students. A weird girl and a popular guy. Quite long but is REALLY my favorite, it's so funny! 😀
Sekine-kun no koi --> weird guy and doesnt not how to deal with love
Futago --> interesting plot, a female writer letting a younger guy live in her house, and her sister has a husband who doesn't act one
14 sai no koi --> middle schoolers who are very mature and became a couple
😀
