How many Yaoi have you read?

watched a few episodes of yami no matsuei (shounen ai) and one of Gravitation, scared me when i realized there were no girls, and deleted them.
Didn´t read any stuff though (i always check the title before downloading)
Still, i can understand why girls like shounen ai and yaoi.

i dont think that counts as yaoi or shonen ai. it might seem kinda slashed but its more like they just happen to be very close and affectionate.

Somebody has actually looked into that. Can't remember where I read it, but basically girls like yaoi because women aren't eroticize. It isn't a woman being played, cheated on or chasing after some hopeless notion of love. With yaoi, women get romance without the traditional romance tragedies happening to women. Just think about how women are portrayed in romances (weak, frail, vulnerable, desperate, etc) and you'll get an idea as to why we like seeing a man got through that for a change.
@xombiemonkey: You're right. Girls have just as much fun watching two guys as guys have watching two girls 😀

hmm. I think men like Yuri for a different reason: we don't have to go through the torture of seeing a naked guy during sex scenes.

actually i'm a girl, but i don't like yaoi 😔 but i've read one shounen-ai (which is basically the same) and that was Loveless. but i do enjoy bishies 🙂

I'd say none but sometimes I stumble across something that I had no idea was yaoi but by the time I figured it out. It was too late. ><

But seriously I have read so many! I have also only been aware of the genre for 6 months or so and I have hundreds of series I am reading and downloading and at least 2 dozen on the bookshelf. I love yaoi (as much as I love gay films too). I was lucky, two of my friends had already discovered it and kept it to themselves then found out I started getting into it and now we all share and bond over it (its funny).

Lol, no offense, but Loveless wouldn't be something I would recommend to someone who never read shounen-ai before. It wasn't really for me either even though I really love shounen-ai (too much age-difference for me). How about giving it one more go? Tokaido Hisame is really REALLY good for starting.

Lucky! I wish I had friends who liked shounen-ai too! My cousins just laughed at me when they found out I read BL... 😢
