Just read Dolls. It's pretty good. I think it's better than Switch, which is a bit messy. Yet I've read 12 volumes of Switch but only 3 volumes of Dolls. Maybe it's too quick to judge. But Dolls got me hooked much more.

Definitally Usagi Drop. I love that one.
Second would probably be Spicy Pink.

Hm. Am I the only one that didn't like Kimi wa Petto? In fact, I couldn't even finish the first volume XD

My favorite josei are Midnight Secretary and Private Prince.

Having read shoujo/josei manga for almost 10 years, this question is surprisingly hard to answer, so I'll just name a few authors and my favourite titles (meaning to say, the ones I can re-read over and over again). Though personally, I have a preference of older shoujo/josei manga style (you know, the big sparkly eyes era).

Hosokawa Chieko - Ouka no Monshou (Royal Emblem or more commonly known, Daughter of the Nile)
To be honest, the story just drags on at this point but the first 20+ books were simply amazing)

Hosokawa Chieko - Hakushaku Reijou (The Count's Daughter)
This book has been long out of print and even the Taiwan translation can only be found in old bookstores.

Shinohara Chie - Ao no Fuuin (Blue Seal)
Seriously people, if you like Red River, wait till you get your hands on Blue Seal (one of her older titles). If the Kail/Yuri/Ramses relationship intrigues you, you'll fall absolutely in love with Akira/Souko/Takao.

Chiho Saito - Magnolia Waltz, Waltz wa Shiroi Dress de
If I have to choose a favourite from her stories, this one immedaitely springs to mind. Albeit, the plot may not be as deep and intricate as her other stories, but it hit all the right points and most of the characters are just so likeable. Besides, if it can warrant a sequel (and prequel, side-stories in her one-shot collections) compared to her more famous works, doesn't it explain a lot?

Chiho Saito - Kanon
Another title that I must name too. Exquisite, charming and quite compelling despite its simple story Though, the ending might seriously turn away 80% of the readers due the hard themes. (If I was less in love with the characters, even I would be turned off by the conclusion)

Watase Yuu - Fushigi Yuugi
This is one of the first few shoujo manga that I actually read and it shall always hold a special place in my heart despite the flaws. But if anything, I only like the first 13 books of Fushigi Yuugi because I thought it would have ended beautifully just right there!

Higuri Yuu - Cantarella
If you are a bishonen lover, I highly doubt anyone can actually resist Higuri Yuu's characters. Match it with an intriguing plot with a blend of dark history, there you have it, a book that you can't put down.

CLAMP - RG Veda
Among all CLAMP works, this is my absolute favourite (partially because I'm more favourable to their older works and style, TRS is off my shelf).

To list a few more titles... (because I'm too tired and lazy to type and nevertheless can't leave out)
Igarashi Yumiko - Candy Candy
Miuchi Suzue - Garasu no Kamen (The Glass Mask)

I ABSOLUTELY agree with you on Ao no Fuuin!
The scanlators are releasing them at a good pace and the relationship between those 3 is so intruiging. XD
Although I love Red River, I'm starting to like Ao no Fuuin better. 🙂
Although it's a shoujo manga...not josei.
Yea...looking now, a lot of those manga are shoujo. XD

To be honest, I can't really tell the difference between shoujo and josei (because most of the elements that define both of them are interchangeable). Though I usually draw the line in terms of audience (because most of those stories I've mentioned are kind of mature for teenage audiences, with their hard themes and all).

I apologize for the confusion though.

But that aside, I've just recently revisited Ao no Fuuin again (my fourth take after almost 5 years) and it still manage to capture my attention (esp when my Chinese has improved) and I finsished it all in one night. Honestly, I didn't like Takao as much when I was younger but now I absolutely adore him and his devotion to Souko, despite her relationship with Akira.

I assume you haven't finish the series so I won't spoil it for you, but once you reach the ending, you'll be demanding for a prequel. I think it ended perfectly but I can't help but wish for an actual prequel, one which shows Souko during her Oni Queen era with... 😀

Kimi kara no Resume Absolutely one of my favs

Personally, I like Josei a lot and wish more was scanned. These are a few of my fav mature/smut mangakas:
OHMI Tomu
YOSHIHARA Yuki
KATSUMOTO Kasane
TODA Megumi

In terms of series I really could relate to that would be Shuukatsu!! - Kimi ni Naitei and Private Prince. I mean this in the real world sense(no sexy bishies waiting for me) as I just graduated from college and can't find a job and am thinking about going back to get my M.S. in History. Kimi kara no Resume is not a '10' manga but I really, really wish more manga like this was scanned. I like mature stories (not always referring to smut mangas). Don't get me wrong I read sappy, silly shoujo all the time and that won't change!

In all I thought that I hadn't read much completed josei, but a search of my completed list pulled up over 100 with josei in the genre tag. This has got me interested and I think I'll reread some on my list. Thanks for all the other good leads.

Quote from StarlightDreams

Here you can tell us what's your favorite josei manga!
If there's a Best Shoujo topic, why not best josei?~

Right now, I think Kimi wa Petto is really good. 😀

I also agree with Sarlight Dreams. The plot and character development in Kimi wa Pet are quite alluring. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and I'd recommend it.
