Self-Sacrificing Protagonist

NO MANHWA!
NO YAOI!
Yes... you can say I tend to like to torture my characters... and watch others torture theirs. >.>;; It's a sick hobby but whatever. It's more dramatic and draws more tears that way.
Basically, I want stuff where the protagonist likes to sacrifice himself for others. It's stupid, there's probably better ways, but the author's cruel and won't let his babies off easily. I would prefer if it doesn't end completely in tragedy, but I don't mind either ways.
Yes, I want to see blood, and I want ppl dying other than the main char. Doesn't mean I want horror or gore though, just drama and stuff.
Stuff like Seimaden and Vampire Juuji Kai (even though that one's over the top to the point it's cheeky...). Maybe Shirogane no Seija, can't remember details that well so not too sure. There's more, too lazy to look. EVEN though they're so strong, they have someone they put before themselves, and end up always choosing what would put a hole in their body.
I don't mind milder ecchi so long as it's not the whole focus of the story, but preferably not. I don't mind shounen-ai, infact, I love it. But no yaoi, and preferably mixing in regular couples as well. As for shoujo-ai... don't got anything against it, but it's boring to read. One thing though, I don't like gag, at all. Looking for drama, so comedy is fine but gag is not. Nothing that ruins the mood.
Forgot to mention! It's by FAR preferable if the protagonist's a guy, good looking and... long hair? Lol that's asking for too much. But yea, pretty guys, pretty art if possible!

Based on the summary, I don't see how it fits, but will give it a try! Thanks.

Tower of God? (you probably read this already)
Laughter at the end of the world (short series)
The Unlimited: Hyobubu Kyousuke (there's an anime and a manga)
This is all I could think of atm, well i do enjoy the idea of a "self-sacrificing prorotagonist" and I look forward to other replies.

It has to be manga? From the top of my mind. The Noblesse applies in this category. Too bat there isn't a tag for this...

Man this is hard -__- I mean if eden no ori doesn't fit then there aren't many that will.
Eden no ori had a lot of moments where the mc sacrificed himself for the rest of the characters, for instance the bird attack where he drew them off away from the others and got severely injured or the bit where he faces down a huge ass chimera thing alone and almost dies. Then the female mc was also self sacrificing in the bit where all the girls had to vote who would be burnt at the stake first. Plus various other people sacrificed themselves along the way. I mean you had the selfish characters in it, but they usually got eaten. In general you could say the end cast was mostly filled with cooperation based self-sacrificing people...

I still wouldn't consider Eden no Ori to fit at all, since that's not exactly sacrifice. Hmm... how to say it? Sacrifice doesn't mean charging headfirst into enemies, that's just normal fighting. Him getting hurt is just the result of that, and not voluntarily. He's too weak, thus he got hurt. Besides, the story itself is too bright, there's not enough of the drama that I want, even though it has the genre.
That's a long list... IDK how many will fit, but will go through them one by one. Thanks.

Eh... not too much... a bit maybe, kinda on the borderline. Besides, I already read it. But thanks!

maybe pumpkin scissors and until death do us part
You should read Gunslinger Girl. Victor is my favorite character with such traits. And the manga has practically everything you asked for and more.

You can try Koori no Mamono no Monogatari. You can see hints of that self sacrificing trait right from chapter 1 if I remember right.
Silver Diamond from the same author should fit as well. Both are shounen-ai.
