I'd have to say the most generic is Ai Yori Aoshi.

Also - sorry - but there's no way you can even attempt to call Negima or Ichigo generic harem mangas.

As for Suzuka, it's not even in the Harem category under Mangaupdates, so why are you guys arguing?

Ichigo 100% may not be the most generic but it is also not the most unique either. Sometimes I had to sit and wonder if the mangaka just sat down and wrote the story after just finishing I"s

As for most generic I find to-LOVE-ru pretty typical.

I haven't read a chapter of it in a while, but how is it generic?

Probably Open Sesame. I'm still wondering how I manage to read 10 vol of it before quitting it.

You can't say that Love Hina and Negima are generic harems, those are two of the best mangas out there (not cause they're harems).

Dude, Tenchi was hella popular back in the day. It both originated the one gay boy living in a house with a bunch of hot bitches trend, and made it popular. Tenchi also had 2 theatrical movies spawned from it, so it must've been pretty damn popular. And just about every harem romance you can find has some Tenchi elements, so I'd say you'd best bet to pay your respects. Well.... or lack there of, since it did spawn the harem plot which everyone hates.

Still, I think Tenchi is the original and the best. (my personal favorite anime of all-time)

I'd have to say Love Hina. Even at the time it came out everyone saw it as a generic harem story. The thing that set it apart was that it had style and gratuitous fan service, a pattern that had only just reached maturity at that point. Before, there was less fan service.

Ai Yori Aoshi follows in the same vein though it takes a more serious/dramatic tone than most Harems. Still lots of fan service but not much slapstick.

to-LOVE-ru, despite the messed up setting is the most generic out there now. You've got the standard crazy girl, quiet nice girl and little sister type all chasing the worthless main character's bone. It's a shame since I really liked his earlier work Black Cat, especially the early chapters.

The author of Black Cat is only the artist, there's a separate writer.

That said, I probably wouldn't read it at all if it didn't have Eve v2. Just because Eve is/was awesome.

Because...because...BECAUSE I SAID SO! Ugh...I don't know. Just the first one that came to mind. Frankly I don't think there's such a thing as a generic manga title out there. Sure, there's such a thing as being inspired by other manas, but...meh...

@Crenshinibon

Huh. Guess that explains how the story could be so messed up in that series. Got fooled by the fact that the guy originally wrote and drew Black Cat.

@metamike

Ai Yori Aoshi probably registered as generic since it featured a bunch of stereotypical characters all going after the same guy. You got the klutz, the little sister, the foreigner Japanese wannabe, and the standard Japanese beauty/childhood friend. It gives a generic feel, especially at first glance, but it is done well enough.

Yeah, I guess that might have been why. However Strangely enough I then realized that I didn't very often see the "main character with dark parst who is a nice guy to everyone" in most harems. Which made me reconsider from it being the most generic manga.

As for To-love-ru, I am getting pretty pissed that it's already at 100+ chapters and the main character is still so damn far from deciding who it is he likes. I would enjoy To-Love-Ru more if it didn't have so many pointless side-stories.
