I'm looking for a manga similar to Hikaru No Go. It should have some sort of supernatural and comical element to it and the main character should develop a very strong connection with another character.

I probably wasn't the only one who really felt how sad it was when Sai actually disappeared.

It doesn't have to be a tragedy, but if it is, please no gruesome/disturbing manga. Some blood and gore is fine, but there's a point to which one starts to wonder if there really is a point to it all. I get it, s/he's bleeding, move on.

And if it's a shojo, I want to be able to tell the difference between the guys and the girls; i.e. there should at least be some hint of testosterone in the male characters.

Yeah, I've read death note. To be honest, I didn't really like the main character because of how arrogant he was. Still, it was a good read.

Shion no Ou seems interesting, I'll check it out.

Any other recommendations? They don't have to have a game aspect to them btw.

I don't know if it's exactly what you're looking for, but maybe you'll like these...
Natsume Yuujinchou
Double Arts

These may be completely NOT what you are looking for, but...
Hakushaku Cain Series
Liar Game (no supernatural things there)
Pet Shop of Horrors

And Eyeshield 21 has always reminded me of Hikaru no Go, but I'm not sure why.

You might like Ookiku Furikabutte. It doesn't have anything supernatural though.

Shin no Ou was crap IMO, the worst sports manga I know. I recommend sth from Adachi, e.g. Cross Game or Touch. Strong relations between characters and witty dialogues are trading marks of his mangas. You won't find there anything supernatural though.

After reading about a strong connection, I immediately thought of The Breaker. Not sure whether it's similar to Hikaru no Go (and I can agree with the whole Sai thing >.<6) but I like this series as well, so I hope you do too. 😁
