Well, if the cover looks totally crappy and old-fashioned then I probably would have 2nd thoughts of it. By old, I mean like something from the 1980 period or maybe some 1990's[a lot of 1990's manga or started from 1990's is good i.e. GTO,Love Hina, Getbackers,Samurai deeper kyo, but some of them are piss quality artwork, chars look so ugly it's hard to like it], like But mostly the old manga I read has really good reviews/recommendations so I'll give it a shot anyways. So yea, I'll judge the cover to a certain point, also if the cover looks more nice and appealing, then I'll probably pick up the manga to read earlier than putting it off till later.

There have been many instances when I skipped reading a manga cause of it's cover. But when I searched for new manga to read, that title kept popping up so I decided to try it and I regretted not reading it earlier.

For example, Basara.

Though, I must say that some covers aren't flattering.

Generally i'll read the discription, simply cause a cover doesn't offer a great deal of info of the series.

I think there have only been a handful of manga that I've picked up without reading some about it. Or I'll constantly come across it somewhere (generally at the back of the SJ or Viz books) and just feel that i have to go out and but it. Kills my poor wallet though 😢

I always judge by looking at the covers. 90% accurate rate! 🤣

How do you know that?

Covers do impact my decision to read but not as much as the description. The cover is usually similar to the manga's artwork. This doesn't always work, for example I put off reading Angel Densetsu (rather, I avoided it completely for over half a year) because of the cover but I really did enjoy it... well I still really hated the art but I liked the story and characters.

I usually judge more on genre and rating (where available) but art does go into the calculations when it is a new title. On sites like this though, I'm more inclined to pick up or ignore a title based on the title's name or the scanlation group.

Priorities for looking into new titles.

  1. Title
  2. Scanlation Group
  3. Genre
  4. Rating
  5. Art

I normally just look at a random manga name posted somewhere or newly added mangas to any of my online manga readers.
My first filter would be the genre, anything shoujo, romance, goes down to the bottom of the pile.
Then is the art, anything with bishies or shoujo style drawing drawing goes down to the bottom of the pile.
Next is the synopsis, if anything in it doesn't excite me it goes down to the bottom of the pile.
Lastly is the first few chapters (depending on chapter size), if that doesn't get me interested enough then I doubt anything in the manga will. 🙄

I rarely search for new mangas since I'm already having to remind myself using notepad which manga I read and what chapter, its really tedious to remember which ones to actually read 😕

Isn't that what this site is for?

sometimes the covers are what make me decide to read the description! and sometimes if the drawings are not to my style (don't ask, i can't really explain it) i won't look into the manga.

I have been misled by it though more than often have I been justified in avoiding based on the manga cover...still, when m bored, I go through highly rated, unlikable (by me) cover art and I have discovered good stuff sometimes- Noramimi, Mirai Nikki, etc ....funnily even Nana, I just thought it would be such a soap opera- but Boy was I wrong 😀 ..I also sank in the bubbles when I thought the art was so cool- though I cant quite remember the names so much.. 😛

I don't really judge it by it's cover, I judge it by it's art. It could have one of the weirdest covers ever, but if it has good art, the I'll star reading it. And if it has like this "OMG, look at all the detail into blah blah blah, but if the characters look like 😲 😔 , then no~"so it's all in the art 😛

Never judge a book (in this case manga) by it's cover! Didn't anyone ever teach you that? 😛
Personally, I always read the description. If it sounds interesting, I'll purchase/read it. And if I'm not to sure about it, then I might go by the cover. Doubtful though. If the storyline is questionable usually I'll just skim through it some.
