But I believe that only the justice system can punish crooks. I myself have no right to attempt to harm others in the name of justice. Also, there are a more chance that woman is a good person rather than a rapist. So I'm going to take the chance and call the police.

Well, normally if (even) a woman is a rapist/murderer/robber and is surrounded by people trying to lynch her, you can understand it really easy (like shoutings "murderer" "get her" ans such). If you see a woman being pushed by some mean looking people, prolly crying for help, i dont think it could be a normal case of "just citizens' vengeance".

Uh, you'd get involved and have to deal with the cops questions and if it's noticeable that you're the one who called, well yeah. I'm probably desensitized 'cause I currently live in a bad neighborhood and therefore pretend I don't see or hear anything if I can help it, though granted the only stuff I've had to ignore so far have been drug deals and fights (at least I hope that's all its been.)

Granted, I've been saved by someone else getting involved, so I do get the importance. I once had a guy chase down a kid who stole my psp, and I'm very thankful for it, but the kid was a scrawny 12 year old and the guy had a good 3 ft and 100 pounds on him and it was still probably a stupid act on the guys part.

Exactly my point! No one deserves such a thing. Even the most violent criminal were children at one time so we can't be that different from them.

"rob" is such a horrible word....in the case of the guy in jail, i think it's a "diplomatic exchange", i save you, you pay me....

in any case, i guess if i'm confronted with that situation, i'll be standing on the place with the most traffic & scream my ass off....no way i'll involve myself in that situation in any physical ways....

people seem to forget one thing.
when you are busy beating somebody, you are generally pretty high on adrenaline, and most people can't work up the courage to actually beat someone up in the streets without the aid of alcohol.

these are two things you can generally use to your advantage.
first, the adrenaline rush might make them jumpy, and since most beatings takes place at night, you might actually scare them of by acting quickly and do a healthy amount of damage before they realize you are alone.
sure, as soon as they realize you are, they will sometimes come back, but at least it buys some time for you and the victims.
second, if they are drunk, it is quite simple to use their lack of balance and the disorientation if it comes to blows.
i actually saw a guy scare away a four people singlehandedly, by just being secure and quick.

also, if there are people around, one act of stupidity might be enough to spark all of them to action...
but even if you don't want to be involved, you can still stick around afterwards, she might just be alive and need your help, and if you feel you can't chase them of, this is better for all of you.
and if you call the police, you might just get lucky and they might have a patrol-car just around the corner.
even just screaming real loud can be enough to distract them.

i would probably call the police and then proceed to do something incredibly stupid.
I am to curious to just stand by, and it would be to interesting to find out just how well i would do againt more than two guys....
or maybe i am just an internet tough-guy, and i would hightail it out of there. 😀

I would call the police. And then probaby shout something at the group of attackers to try to distract them. And they might decide to leave the girl alone for awhile unti they are done with me, since she is probably too scared or injured to get away anyway so they wouldn't mind leaving her alone. I'm also a pretty fast runner, so I would start running once they get close to me. I might even throw some things at them if they are coming towards me. And try to hide somewhere nearby but where they can't find me.

Also I couldn't really just run out in the open to try to get away, because if the cops happen to pass by you, they would stop and ask questions since they heard about a beating. And also since it is night, so the woman probably can't see who and how many attackers are, inless she already knows the people before hand. So the cops may take it you are an attacker too since you are fleeing the scene, and may end up with the same charges as them. Inless the attackers are kind enough to say you didn't take part of it at all, most likely they will say it was your idea.

I'd just ignore it. I'd rather not risk myself for someone I don't even know. Of course, this would/might make me a coward. But, hey. I don't have anything to do with it. I'm sure someone will do something about it. Though, even if I ignore it what's happening isn't going to go away. But... OH WELL. Because, I tend to not care too much.
