It's very common using roses, plants, feathers, crystals and sound itself on games and manga, but it's the first time I saw someone using scissors as an weapon! And, the most important... STRAWBERRIES!

I've always thought that Kurohime's magic guns were kinda interesting and unique.

Other manga with slightly unusual weapons for the leads I can think of include:

Crimson Grave -female lead wields a large dual-bladed weapon.
Seikon no Qwaser - male lead wields a bad-ass scythe.
Himegami - one of the two female leads wields a boomerang.
Freezing - female lead uses a hand blade type thing.
Raiders - female lead uses two curved blades.

And of course there are any number of manga where the main character uses some sort of spiritual, magical, or psychic power to fight. And guns and fists seem just as ordinary as the swords in my opinion.

Personally I don't care what they fight with so long as the manga is interesting. That said, I do like to see girls fighting with large weapons for some reason. Spears and other polearms are especially nice, though I'm perfectly fine with big swords as well (Claymore).

Carpe Diem Sanctus Espiritus, Carpe Jugulum

In Mahou Sensei Negima the main character uses staff, later he uses his fists. In Fairy Tail the main character uses his fist empowered with fire. In History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi the main character uses different fighting styles without weapon because he's afraid of sharp objects. In Shamo the main character is a Karate-ka so he uses his bare hands but there's one time he uses a pair of tonfa. Lastly, why did'nt anybody mentioned that Son Goku from Dragon Ball uses his staff, then later uses his fist? As I recall, only Future Trunks uses a sword.

As for my preference, any interesting, adventurous, fighting, martial arts, shounen manga will do.

Blazer Drive...the main character won't get his weapon till a bit later but the fighting itself is already unethical since it involves mystickers (stickers basically) that give off different effects.

Black Cat,we have a variety of weapons from your usual sword to a railgun and a rocket powered metal ball on chains.

If you want something different like super powers than you could try Flame of Recca and Get Backers. In Flame of Recca they use many different kind of ninja weapons and in Get backers they use personal super powers like electricity which Ginji uses, but he comes up with different ways to use electricity, which leaves waiting what he comes up next.

I could also suggest Toaru majutsu index, but I haven't read the manga. I'm watching the anime, which pretty good. The main character has a power which cancels all other powers. So far it's been pretty good.

In Kiseijuu the hero is, let's say, merged with an alien and this way he uses his hand (the one infested with the alien) as a weapon. Later on he merges with the alien even more and he gains super strength of his own (I love this part).I don't know how many people will like this(since it's with aliens), but I rated it with a 10.
