People Who Don't Contribute

MU is a resource. If contributing were required, and it bashed leechers, then no one would know about it, nor would it be as well-developed. I personally contribute. As of now, more to series info and releases than to forums, I feel.

How do you want people to contribute, not like they can update the site. And people do come here looking for information.

Actually, they can.
And I'm talking explicitly about the forum.

not not really, but the "i'm looking for" threads are a little out of hand imo.
lurk moar non-contributers
Eh, they get annoying... But I guess I can't complain since I've found a few manga to read that I wouldn't have otherwise, by browsing over other people's threads.

Maybe most people post an intro, and then find out they just don't like you (kidding, maybe). Seriously though, the "I'm looking for" threads are nice. I use the series info and stats but nothing beats human input, and often in all that repetition I find something new.

Maybe someone should make a small sticky index that link to the most repetitive "I'm Looking For.."questions so its easier for people to look before asking. But some of those people might not look in the first place..so nevermind I guess, haha.

As great as that would be... That'd be a hell of a tedious job to do... And long to boot. Can't see anyone actually volunteering to do that. I suppose MU could apply to the government to be an outlet for community service for cons. 😎 😉

i started looking through the members lists and MU has about 73950 members. do we really need so many people to contribute? you have to become a member if you want to keep track of the manga your reading.

I like the I'm looking for threads... they help me find what I'm looking for...
No, but in all seriousness... that's what it's there for, right...? and if people bothered to search the forums before creating new I'm looking for threads then it'd actually serve as a great index for further categorizing and grouping manga...
oh well, just my thoughts on it...

Once more: I am speaking explicitly about the forum, not the other member features. If you are going to pop up once, make an intro thread that says little or nothing about yourself, and then not post again, or make an I'm Looking For thread asking for 'shojo/shonen/seinen/whatever other generic whatever', and then not even look at another thread to say anything, why bother? It's a community, and the more people in a functioning community, the more effective the community becomes.
But to be honest/fair, it's more the intro threads that get annoying. Or I'm Looking For threads where the TS doesn't have public lists and then gets pissy when you suggest something that they've read. There are few threads that have actual intellectual discussion, and if there would more, I'm sure I wouldn't even notice the myriad of essentially useless threads.
On a side note, I think lambs is a little too stringent sometimes.

About the intro threads though
I can imagine that after realizing the vast amount of info on manga there is here something has caught their attention and so they started to read rather than post
I've lost my english again but what I mean is that it could be a reason for why they so quickly disappear
