i don't see what the problem is....the i'm looking for section is one of the highlights of this forum....this is a resource site, so that's the perfect search engine for members....it's ridiculous if members should feel the need the "contribute" to the forum's thread/post count....those are nothing but a show of how many irrelevant threads/posts that have been made in the chatter box, where nothing relating to manga was discuss....there can only be so many new ideas/controversies that can be exploited and discuss in this forum, and if anyone should base their entire interest on waiting for contributions from members in this forum, they need to deviate their life from this site in general

the introductions tick me off, too, though....they're entirely redundant since it's not necessary to give a load of lame details about yourselves to a board full of strangers online....people should be able to see who you are through the posts you make in the forum already, and if you're not contributing anything, big deal, that just mean you're not interested enough in the topics in discussion....

this "community" is just essentially a bunch of otakus putting their head together over a cup of coffee and discuss world news, ethics, or whatever occupying their bored minds....there're also gonna be newcomers who join in and sometimes request suggestions that are actually relevant to manga....i'm not undermining the value of this board though, but this is ultimately a place for lurkers to express their passion for manga, but it's also a place where they can just mind their own business and only speak up for their need....

introduction threads = waste of time
i'm looking for ___ threads = the whole point of opening up a forum in a manga resources website

I don't mind it much. I have never made an intro topic here, though it annoys me that the only post a lot of members have is their intro topic T_T

The I'm Looking For thread on the other hand, I think it's great. Gives me new manga to read, I've made a few threads there myself too, and I love it~

I'm ashamed to say that when i first signed up, i didn't post an introduction and in fact, I didn't even click on the forums button. I just used the My Lists. I think that went on for a long while cause apparently I've been here for a year already but seems to me that I'd discovered this place recently. So now, i'm kinda contributing to/hooked on the forums. (Reaching 50 post count soon!)
Anyway, my point is: people will come... in a year. (:

In all honesty...

People have other things to do with their life than lurk forums ._.; Like... Scanlate...

And alot of people don't actually realise half the functions on the site...

... Myself included.

I post the odd thing when something catches my eye, but I like to read threads, and use the site to search for manga...

Besides, alot of people have other, smaller forums which they enjoy using that are based around say, Yaoi or shoujo or even a particular series.

On smaller forums I do like introduction threads ^^ And sometimes people feel the need to break the ice? 😃

Nah...I don't really mind the people who don't contribute...they can do whatever they like...shrugs

This isn't pokemon, you can't catch them all and whining about it will just scare people off. Isn't the initial introduction and i'm looking for threads a perfect chance for you to encourage people to stick around though? I think the introductions are used by many just to feel which way the wind is blowing in these forums, well it was for me anyway. Had the replies been meaningless, boring or even hostile on my introduction then I would have gotten the hell out of here asap. Same with the looking for thread I posted. It's really quite simple, the initial respone a user gets is what decides a future career in lurking or participation.

One way to see it as well.

Do you know what people did in the old days when they had secrets they didn't want to share?

They'd climb a mountain, find a tree, carve a hole in it, whisper the secret into the hole and cover it up with mud. That way, nobody else would ever learn the secret...
