Now, I'm in no way an art aficionado. But I've found that I have a preference for some of the "not so favored" art styles. I do like styles like Yamato Nase's and some other popular ones.

Unfortunately, I tend to lean more toward Mishima Kazuhiko's style. It just seems strange to me that I'd prefer something like that over some of the others.

Do any of you have strange preferences?

I don't have a preference. Most yaoi art is mass-produced medicore art (even more so compared with shoujo art) so I can't be too picky. As long as it is not too bad, and the story is interesting to me, I will give it a try. Some artists are slightly better, I admit, only because they have better details, panels and proportions.

I absolutely won't read anything that is/looks like these:
KAMO Nabako
KANZAKI Takashi
Hoshi no Yakata
Aigan Shounen
KANO Shiuko
Hisho to Yajuu
YAMAKAMI Riyu
There are some others but I can't remember now. 🤢 If the faces are too pointy/long and the bodies too long, chances are I won't like it.

I find distinctive and unique art styles interesting though, such as: ONOZUKA Kahori, Basso, NAKAMURA Asumiko.

But I generally prefer their non-yaoi works with those art styles to yaoi ones. Not sure why. 😐 As long as those weird, sketchy, non-mainstream styles don't have graphic smut scenes, I am fine because smut doesn't usually work with their styles.

PS: I found the raws of Hiki and the art is good, as good as better shounen/shoujo art, really improved, and better than anything else I've seen by this mangaka. But it's not yaoi...

Matsu Takeshi's works. 🤣
On a more serious note, I like yaoi art like KUNIEDA Saika's work.

I like unusual styles, but I still read some of the mainstream style out there.

There are so many, but I'll mention one; I absolutely love Kusama Sakae's work.

Cool. I'll have to check some of those out.

Unfortunately, I see at least 2 names there that I don't mind. Not some of my favorites though, so I have no reason to cry after seeing this list.

Anyway, I'm gonna look into some of those others. Sometimes I find some of the most absolutely horrid stuff interesting. It would take me a while to name off some of the others I like, but for some reason Mishima Kazuhiko seemed especially strange for me to like.

One day I may be brave and add some of the others I like.

Don't mind what I said. There is actually more horrid stuff I haven't listed (e.g. KABUTOMARU Chouko, KANBE Akira 🤢 ). That's just my taste. I think they are huge turn-offs. If you like something, you will still like it, no matter how much others dislike it.

Usually plot > art to me (unless it's hentai) but the art can't be too unbearable. I don't find those I listed ever have plots I am interested in. I even find some doujinshis with better art than that of a lot of original stuff.

Mishima Kazuhiko is certainly not strange.

Basso
KATARU Cisco
ANIYA Yuiji

KANO Shiuko

I've read and even reread Nigai Kajitsu because it does have a good twist.

No offence. I wasn't that impressed. But I do find art in that one-shot better than a lot of her other works. My guess is that as long as it doesn't have graphic smut scenes, it will be fine.

Well said. For some of those (and lots, lots more) I can barely make it past the first page. That's probably why I'm not as "into" yaoi as I could be. (But sometimes if I find the artwork interesting, I'll stick around at least until page 2 😁 )

This is true. And I'm also not saying that this one in particular is horrid (I just like that word for some reason). But I've seen some awful stuff that I like.

Nice. Oh, and Basso is definitely different.

Indeed different, but I love it.
Especially Nakamura Asumiko's. Very beautiful.

I also <3 Kunieda Seika's art and stories.
Not that strange though. haha.

Those artist create great titles...

I will also add YONEDA Kou.

Edit:
lol, forgot to put the qoute code ^^;;

I actually find Mishima Kazuhiko's art better-looking than Yamato Nase's and the like. 😮

I love YAMADA Yugi's works.
I get so caught into her work, that I never really notice the art.
Some people think her art is unusual, but I think it's lovely.

You know, I've seen people who don't like her style, but I have to admit, I like it too.

Esuto Emu's style is kind of similar to Basso.

I wouldn't say that but Esuto's art sure is different, inclines towards realistic.

I remembered YAMASHITA Tomoko (Illumination manga), but that isn't very enjoyable for me.
