I'm looking for shoujo/josei mangas that give a melancholy or sort of depressing feeling. Not only should the story be sad, but I'd like it if the art looked sad too. I don't like the typical huge eyes and bubbly looking art you see in normal shoujos. The ending doesn't exactly need to end in a tragic way; I just want the manga in general to be sad. I feel like most old mangas are like this rather than the new ones, but I'm fine with whatever. Thanks!

Here are some suggestions:

Dokuhime (Josei, Fantasy, Romance, Horror, Tragedy)
One of my fave manga <3. Very sad and dark atmosphere throughout the manga. About the live of a girl who was fed poison from a child, so that she can be a weapon a.k.a. the Poison Princess. Gothic-looking art, that adds the depression. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, but you have to be ready for some horror (not the ghost type though) and depression.

Hal (AYASE Umi) (Shoujo, Romance, Tragedy)
Interesting series with a huge twist. There's a sad mood going on, but the art is the generic shoujo style. It's a lovely series though - about a robot who helps a girl overcome her grief.

Kon no Ki Konoha (Shoujo, Oneshot, Romance, Tragedy)
Oneshot about a girl who meets a tree spirit. Melancholy mood and the art compliments it. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Natsu no Kakera (Oneshot Collection, Shoujo, Romance, Tragedy)
I've only read the first story. The 1st story is about a girl who meets a hospitalized guy.

Rec - Kimi ga Naita Hi (Shoujo, Romance, Tragedy)
It's sad. About a stoic girl who carries a camrecorder around, and a retired teen male actor. Although short, it's very sad. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Art is generic shoujo, but somehow I think it compliments the mood.

Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan (Seinen, Romance, Tragedy)
Yes, it's seinen. BUT IT'S TOO GOOD. This was the ONLY manga so far that made me cry. I don't know, the tears just suddenly started flowing. It's about a sad woman who meets a prisoner. HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Sad art as well. It's by the same author as Kon no Ki Konoha.

Aozora Kirai no Usotsuki Semiko (Fantasy, Romance, Shoujo, Tragedy)
Art is shoujo-shounen-like so it's a bit cheerful. The plot is not sad at first I remember correctly, but there HAS always been a kind of mood that makes me feel a bit sad. It's about a guy and a girl from another kingdom/world.
