To date, no manga has ever hurt me as much as Bitter Virgin. I was left feeling sick to my stomach, and I had trouble sleeping for several days.

bitter virgin was also really depressing in the beginning for me too, but as it went on it seemed to get more lighthearted as it went on, maybe it was just me?

I've only read up to chapter 10-12 ish, where the flashbacks are. Does it get happier? Cause I really want it to get happier. ;_;

for me Diamond Head was very sad and depressing, but i really liked it. as for fruits basket, that was also sad, but it was too draggy. at first i liked it, but then started getting annoyed. i somehow finished it in the end. thank God!

for me one of the most depressing anime is The grave of fireflies (tombeau des lucioles in french), an hour after watching it i was still crying, it was so sad and so moving. i really would like to watch it again but i'm afraid i'll be depressed....again.....and killing myself! lol

as for manga, i think deep love is really depressing (i just read ayu story, i'm not ready yet to read reina story and the host) 😳 , but what's more depressing with that manga is that it really exist in our society not everywhere but it does exist and to know that makes me feel way too depressing... well i guess i'll look for something funny/happy now with a happy ending because my heart can't take it anymore
🤢 🤢 🤢

ps: if someone know something really depressing with a happy ending let me know 😀

Video Girl Ai anyone? i'm not talking aboout the ending, but just everything before the ending! it was the most depressing manga i've ever read...it was full of angst, full of mistakes and so full of pain and doubts...luckily, i persevered, i somehow finished it..but what an experience! the mangaka must have had some terrible experiences in his love life, if he has one...really!

I'm with the guy who said Ai-Ren, that is the most depressing manga I've ever read. Also the only one to ever make me cry, and I rarely do.

I also thought Saikano was not worth watching after a while. Too depressing. I really don't like depressing mangas or animes. It make me think too much about...well life. I thought Fruits Basket was depressing for a while in the middle part. I tend to stay away from these negative emotions. 🤢

I didn't find in depressing exactly...sad in a lot of ways, but the end didn't leave me feeling dragged down. Definitely good, I need to re-read that some time.

I try to avoid the depressing/sad manga because I dont wish to use my free time reading sorrow. But I am going to have to say that Berserk is up there in depressing for the Guts.

I mean the women he loves, loves him and Griffith, gets raped by the Griffith and enjoys, loses memory, is now afraid to be around Guts, and in the end is going to go for Griffith leaving Guts the sole berserker alone. Not to mention the ghosts/souls contantly trying to bring him into hell and the countless super demons continously hunting him because he is the last sacrifice for them. Sorta a large pile of depressing suck piled up in front of him. I think the fact that he is so badass and outward not emotional sorta throws off the calibur of how depressing his life really is. PS, forgot to mention him having to kill his own father and being raped by a fellow soldier at like the age of 10.

Edit by mod: don't forget your spoiler box... you revealed almost 70% of the plot

you also forgot about him being born from the body of a dead woman ^_^ can't forget that little detail, it's been a while since i read it but i'm pretty sure that's true

Well, elfen lied is pretty depressing.

If a little girl getting all of her limbs ripped off isn't depressing I don't know what is. Or the girl that was sexually abused by her stepdad, or the countless number of girls that have been tortured in horrendous experiments since birth, or the boy who watched his father and sister get brutally murdered.

Other than that it's not all that bad

yeh, thats why i love berserk, i never someone take so many shit in any story and still keep going, defeating everything and looking cool.
bc, I know that no matter what happens even if he loses his legs will never give up and always win.

I also think Gantz is pretty depressing. all the character go through hell and have so messed up lives. it makes me pity them more than guts, bc guts doesnt look so afected
