Quote from kawaiiairbender

Life

  • Since I've only read 4(?) volumes I don't know how it will go but I know it's going to be getting more depressing for a while. Hopefully the end won't be suicide.

I totally forgot about Life! 😲 But yeah, this one's way up there. Sooo sad and depressing, you can only pity the main character 😢

I actually love Saikano for all the haunting, disturbing dark stuff. It makes me feel like the world is really coming to an end. I'd been looking for that kind of story for a long time.

I think for me it's the Deep Love series T_T
I cried so many times and I hate the ends,
everytime when I think 'bout it, I feel so depressive.

NHK ni Yokoso.

My already limited faith in humanity shrank the more I read that. By the end, I was about ready to lock myself in my room and write a bad eroge.

Wasurarenai for sure. I was crying all the time...
And also Mucha Kucha Daisuki... 🙂

I forgot about Boku no Hatsukoi wo Kimi ni Sasagu.
It's not completely scanlated yet but I'm pretty sure I will not laugh much while reading it... 😔

I'd have to go with Battle Royale.

I haven't read many manga but this one-shot HOTEL really hit me. Very... what really is the word I'm looking for? Gunslinger Girl is probily as depressing as it got for me so far.

Is there also an anime/manga debate here? One title, Elfen Lied, the anime hurts emotionally and the manga hurts physically, the animation in it was just too bad but you should all check out the anime.

So far, Socrates in Love ._. That was the saddest manga I've read. normally I try to avoid sad/tragic endings, but this one just got me gripped at the beginning of the story and, well.
Hello Baby is somewhat depressing, too. Especially in the end, when the main character hears the truth and uhm, reacts to it.

Some sad mangas are Bitter Virgin and Hoshi no Koe.
And if you are really looking to cry, listen to some sad music while you're reading ^^

certain occurrences in death note made me really depressed.

I am referring to L's death, of course.. that was just awful. >_< I stopped watching/reading after that.

I tend to stay away from depressing manga in general though. if I wanted to cry, I would watch the news on TV.

edit- I dunno why people find Bitter Virgin depressing.. I've only read through chapter 24, but so far, I think it's a series about moving on, despite hardships & depressing things that have happened in the past. is it weird that I find that somewhat uplifting?
