Since its been 2 and 1/2 years since I posted this, I might as well update this list:

1. GTO: Every time I read and reread it, it still brings a big smile to my face.
2. Full Metal Alchemist: without a doubt has the best ending to any series I've come across, including GTO.
3. Mushishi: My only beef with this series is that it doesn't have a proper ending, but honestly it's so good anyways that it still makes my top 5.
4. 20th Century Boys: Awesome good guys + awesome bad guys + awesome story = win.
5. Honey and Clover: Honestly don't know why it belongs in my top 5, but it just feels wrong to leave it out.

I've limited my list to completed series since any ongoing series can take a turn for the worst, but honorable mentions: One Piece (easily the best ongoing series that I'm currently following), Urusawa Naoki's other works like Monster and Pluto, Solanin, Black and White (aka Tekkon Kinkreet, which trumphs even FMA on the concept of brotherhood) and Yotsubato! (my go-to choice when I need a good laugh).

Haven't read many yet, I'm new to this, but I'd have to pick Hana Kimi. It's just so sweet (I'm sure that many will find it sickeningly so) and leaves out the hentai bits except for two (?) pages.

I don't know about my top five but my favourite would have to be Claymore. Dragonball and Mahoromatic should also be up there so I guess my list would look like this.
