So,I was sitting here listening to music from Nausicaa and suddenly started thinking about what movie from Studio Ghibli I like the best.. 😕
And so,this topic was made. - Which Ghibli movies are your favorites? 😀
Post your top 3 ghibli movie list, and if possible "Why?". 🙂
I haven't seen all of them so I'm not quite sure myself, but heres my list:
1.Kaze no Tani no Nausicaa (Because it was the first movie I saw)
2.Laputa: Castle in The Sky (I like the story, but that's the same for all the movies)
3.Mononoke Hime/Whisper of The Heart (I can't choose between them >_<)
..And I was a bit disappointed by Gedo Senki(Tales from Earthsea).
Edit: I won't kill you,or something like that, if you mention more than 3 movies. 😀
"Things that are evil in the light might be good when done in the dark"
1- Laputa: I simply like the world and the story.
2- Nausicaa: same reason.
3- Mononoke Hime: same reason.
The only difference is i liked Laputa more than the others.

Only 3?! That's terribly hard...all Ghibli movies have a special place in my heart. I'm a total Ghibli fan because each and every one of their films has this certain subtlety to it. Nothing is melodramatic or overplayed.
1 - Mimi wo Sumaseba - Heartwearming, it gives that "peaceful" feeling. They're two very mature kids who fall in love but without the flowery backgrounds, the sparkly eyes, and the "does he love me?" monologues. In other words, it's refreshing and not overly dramatic. Plus, I like movies that have no villains.
2 - Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi - One of the most creative and well-thought out movies...ever. I can grab a thesaurus and give you every synonym for "unique" and it still wouldn't be enough to describe this movie.
3 - Hotaru no Haka - Okay, as much as I hate sad movies, this movie just gets to me. I haven't watched it without crying yet, and everytime I begin to watch it I know I'm gonna start feeling sad, but I can't help but watch it anyway. Such a very well-made and humanistic story. Everyone should watch this. Even those that aren't anime fans.
Special mention goes to Mononoke Hime, a movie about nature and preservation that actually presents BOTH sides of the story. Even the people who tried to destroy the forests weren't portrayed as totally evil. Very tastefully done.
And also to Tonari no Totoro, which introduced me to the cutest living balls of fur ever to grace the silver screen. 😀 😀 😀
The only Ghibli film I didn't like too much was Gedo Senki. Damn you Goro Miyazaki... =P

Only 3. thats hard because I love all of the Ghibli movies. Well maybe not Earthsea but in my mind I kind of kicked that one out of the Ghibli canon.
1.Mononoke Hime - I love everything about this movie. The visuals, the main characters, the music, the story, even the happy/sad ending. It was one of, if not the first, animes I ever saw and still remains one of my all time favourite movies.
-
My Neighbor Totoro - So different from action based movies. I love the simple scenes of daily life. The reason this is in my top three however is Totoro. I love him so much.
-
Spirited Away/Nausicaa - Spirited Away has the most gorgeous visuals out of all the Ghibli films. Nausicaa's strong point is story. The way humans fight at anything they perceive to be a threat without trying to understand the root cause. (these to constantly switch in and out of my top depending on which one I've seen soonest)
Whisper of the Heart - is an honorable mention beacause while it may become one of my top 3 eventually I've only seen it once and will have to watch it a few more times and see how it holds up.

1)Whisper of the Heart - Definitely one of the sweetest films Ghibli has ever produced. When I watched it the first time I was completely blown away by it, I mean the film just makes sense.
2)My Neighbor Totoro - It was the first Ghibli film that I watched and the bus stop scene is still engraved in my mind. I also loved the part when the older sister was really worried when the little sister got lost.
3)Spirited Away - A very interesting film, although I need to admit that when I watched it the first time the scene where the parents got turn into pigs scared the hell out of me.

- My Neighbor Totoro: My first anime ever, even before Sailor Moon.
- The Cat Returns: Yeah, it's silly and stupid, but they managed a GREAT dub cast.
- Uh...all the rest? I definitely like the first two the most, but the rest are kinda on the same level for me.

- Spirited Away
Very fanciful and imaginative. I like how it takes you away to a fun and adventurous world. - Howl's Moving Castle
Very sweet movie =] - My Neighbor Totoro
Who doesn't like this movie? I think it introduced a lot of people to the Japanese animation genre.

- Omoide Poro Poro - realistic and life-like like no other anime in existence. Love it. Omoide is usually very underrated, and that makes me sad. My personal Ghibli favorite.
- Hohokekyo Tonari no Yamada-kun - funny as hell and very... well, different. Extremely enjoyable.
- Hotaru no Haka - it didn't just make me sob or shed a tear or two or something, it made me cry. Tragical and dramatic like hell and absolutely brilliant, of course.
I'd like to mention Nausicaa, but the manga is lightyears better than the anime adaptation, so the credit goes to Miyazaki alone.
Nice topic, by the way.

Oh so hard since I adore some of them the same amount.
Um
- Howl's Moving Castle/Spirited Away ~ I really can't decide both blew me away.
~~ Spirited Away was my first Miyazaki film and I was so so amazed, it was one of those "where have you been all my life moments" the story and the animation oh my gosh. Also, I just wanted to say that I somewhat think of Spirited Away in the legue of fairy tales. Not sure if that makes since but the world that they created with that movie 😃
~~ Howl's Moving Castle was gorgeous the story and the little romance and the soundtrack. >w< - Laputa - Castle In The Sky ~ I still haven't finished this yet but the first 1.5 hr is amazing and I think I fell in love in the first 5 min.
- My Neighbor Totoro ~ I dunno it's nothing like my other favorites, somewhat simple(?), calming and fun.
I really want to watch Whisper of the Heart, but I'm having a time finding it D: Must remember to harass classmate for it. XD
