The best one I can think of is Doraemon
That series is iconic in the East, but for some reason, it gets almost no publicity in North America.
Oh, and I also recommend Pygmalio

HAJIME NO IPPO (read through the first 2 volumes hell definitely get hooked on it)
History's strongest disciple kenichi is a great read oso

btw jpn does overdrive continue after his first race?

Yep, if you mean by the first race is the one Hyoudo is in. It continues on for more races+more new characters, since the anime covers only the first race[volume 1-volume 5 of the manga], then after that the manga continues his journey with volume 6-17[17 is last volume sadly]. The end of volume 5 is the only part you don't see in the anime[which covers mostly everything in the manga closely from volume 1-5], which is when it skips to 2 months after that race and you see how everyones doing.

Eyeshield 21
Wimpy go-fer boy discovers that his go-fering has actually made him perfect for being a football quarterback. Well, more like a "demon" high school football club member/coach discovers it. Funny, and as far as I remember, no cleavage or pantyshots, although the "demon" occasionally motivates the club members by shooting an AK-57? at them. Or setting wolves on them.

Yakitate!! Japan
Don't remember much besides it's funny and quite addicting. About a boy who wants to become a master baker. That can't be too offensive right? He only knows how to make Japanese bread, but apparently can apply those skills to any sort of bread.

HunterxHunter
Can't believe I almost forgot about this one! About a 12yrold? boy who wants to become a Hunter (treasure hunter/bounty hunter) to find his dad who was a famous hunter. Meets team of companions during test for Hunter's license that eventually becomes team of companions saving the world? By author of Yuyu Hakusho. Less profanity/smoking/skimpily dressed women but about the same (or more) violence/gore.

And of course there's prince of tennis. Don't know if you want to subject your little brother to a fandom with such a large yaoi fanbase though, as case in point I could not find the actual manga page due to the large number of yaoi or shounen ai doujin. Not that there's necessarily something wrong with exposing your younger brother to shounen ai. ^_~

Ah, also I am not a 13 year boy. But I did get a fourteen year old boy hooked on Gundam Wing Episode Zero once. (It was his first manga, and apparently he liked it enough to steal it from me.)

Oh yeah, if your brother likes detective stories Conan is classic. The manga version of Encyclopedia Brown?

Eh...it's a LOT bloodier & gorier than Encyclopedia Brown, though! 😲

Still a good series.

OH WAIT, there is a good way to know if he is ready for "mature" content... He likes Naruto? if the answer is Yes, then he is not ready for stuff like D-ASH just yet

Not quite sure how that follows...
I read a lot of mature stuff and seinin. My two favorite mangas are Berserk and Gantz (not for 13 year olds!), But I still like Naruto a lot too.

Honestly I think its silly to try to introduce him to mature stuff. Let him find it on his own when he gets a bit older.

totally agree...
and about the Naruto thing.. same here... liking or not that kind of manga doesnt mean anything ...

Erm...

Pandora Hearts[action, shonen, magic, adventure, comedy. Seriously awesome manga and it's gonna be an anime soon! X3 It pops up something really funny at the most serious of times]

Pick of the Litter [Orginal name: Ikai Hanjou-ki Hiyokoya. shonen, comedy. Really funny and interesting but Tokyopop cancelled the last 2 volumes ;-;]

St. Lunatic High School [Yoru Nimo Makezu!, shojo, magic, comedy, and romance in the last volume. This one's really, really funny. The first manga by Majiko!, the artist of Code Geass]

Amatsuki [historical, shonen, action, comedy. This is an interesting manga. Really popular in Japan, that's what I heard]

Kuroshitsuji [supernatural, magic, shonen, horror, mystery. I.... Don't know what to say... This is a really good yet weird manga. It's funny too, but it gives off more of a mysterious-ish and scary-ish and dark-ish feeling]

Spiral [mystery, shonen, action]

Bakuman [shonen, comedy, a little romance. About two friends making a manga. By the same author as Death Note. The main character makes a manga with his friend for a girl he likes]

I'm around your brother's age so he might like a few of these titles, but since I'm a girl, these titles might be a little too girly.. ^^' Pick of the Litter and Yoru Nimo Makezu! are released in America [age 13+]. Your brother might like 07 Ghost, but it might be a little improper for him [07 Ghost is releasing in December '08 by Go Comi! 16+, shonen, magic, action, comedy. Really durn good, won two first place in a manga magazine]. I think it's 16+ because of alot of cuss words and a little blood and other stuff. I think most guys can handle that pretty well. 🙂
