Enigma - The story as for now looks very solid and complex, it's something I'd expect more to be from a man's mind.
Wow. Talk about sexist. There are tons of mangas written by women that are complex and tons of manga written by men that are superficial and filled with pointless writing. Just saying.
what?! mangaka for whistle, kekkashi, and emma were woman?
I would have never thought that...
oh, about that
it is scientifically proven that women reach their full maturity level at age 21 while men reach it at age 30. So women are more "mature" then men at an earlier age (9 years difference~!)
@off-topic:Sorry... what? An abstract (mental maturity) has been scientifically proven? Because we're not talking about sexual maturity? Aight?
No more questions. (But a link to the would to the research would be nice.)
@topic: My favorite female mangakas are CLAMP (precious xxxholic!) and Yumi Hotta (I reread Hikaru many times).

I had assumed that ecchi was primarily written by men, so it surprises me to find any at all written by women.
I knew that my favorite bishounen-packed shounen series Saiyuki, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Katekyou Hitman Reborn! were written by female mangaka. What shouldn't have surprised me was that Saint Young Men and Mushishi are written by women since I also like those. Now if you tell me that Monster is written by a woman (as far as I know it is not) and considering that I read mostly shoujo and yaoi, then the number of series I've read and enjoyed which are written by men is a mere handful. It's not by any means a conscious choice, as usually I don't know the sex of the mangaka when I start reading. Just works out that way. I do think that women write more about relationships, and that is what women tend to read - or least what attracts me to a story. I think you can see more of a relationship focus in the first three shounen above, as contrasted with Bleach or Dragonball Z, for example.
Guys out there -- do you read mostly works by men?

isn´t that common knowledge?
Anyways i wouldn´t be suprised if the Death Note and Bakuman team would be women. Especially the artist since he drew on Hikaru no Go which was... created by a women! Everywere is subtext
Rumiko Takahashi Sensei and many others - Took me awhile before I realized who she was. 🙁
I don't care about the gender of a mangaka - I've great respect for the authors depending on the quality of their work.

Pretty weird reasoning I'd say. Illogical and incoherent, befitting a real female. 🤨

This topic is seriously sexist. What, does being female automatically preclude you from being a top mangaka? Like it's a special achievement if you can write good manga AND you're a woman? What?!

no, the author of hikaru no go is female, while the artist is the same as in death note

Yes but what's with "subtext"? And what do you mean with "I wouldn't be surprised if the bakuman team would be women."? What does it have to do with Hikaru's author being a woman?

the artist who drew it often draws manga where many girls see subtext (there are many hikaru no go and death note dj). And BL subtext is something women may bring in without noticing it. There may be some men, but there are more women who draw manga like this.

I see, I didn't know it cuz I don't read bl dojins and nor did I see the subtext in either Hikaru or Death Note.

I can understand about something like FMA.
But the sex of the mangaka of B Gata H Kei, Hanamaru Kindergarten and Working!! shouldn't be a surprise though B Gata have poor art and Working!! has a terrible story. I wonder why they are there. How can one never guess?
And aren't Emma and Lament of the Lamb obvious enough? O_o
@Name-Undecided
I don't think some of those manga listed are "top" manga. And this topic is about guessing the sex of the mangaka based on art and story, not based on whether the manga is top or not.
