Love Hina.

Keitaro is one of the few harem male starts out uber loser but becomes a pretty cool character. He's not wishy washy, despite the fact that he has an obvious attraction to Mustumi and Motoko, and knows that he only wants Naru. He comes to this conclusion a half-way through the series and goes on the attack getting Naru. Most harem males would not come to this realization until the last chapter of the series. Keitaro had goals and he successfully reached them: Go to Tokyo U. Become an archeologist. Get Naru!

Ai Yori Aoshi.

Kaoru is also a rare character in the harem world. He struck out on his own, giving up a life of luxury for freedom. He's self sufficient and a serious student/worker. He matures into a man throughout the series: Finishing college. Going into business and completing his Graduate degree (which I take to be at least a Masters Degree if not a Doctorate). He's not wishy washy, he loves Aoi and is just as dedicated to her as she is to him. Aoi is one of the few rare 'perfect wife' character that I love - she's not fully ignorant to sex and has her own insecurities. The only downside to her is that she comes across very 2 dimensional due to her overly zealous loyalty to Kaoru.

Clannad.

Tomoyo is the one character I felt is the most like me in high school and there after - personality wise that is. He's not smart, but not dumb. He's not a rule breaker, but he makes his own rules. He's got a goofy friend. Whenever he's in a scene, he is noticed! That's what makes him standout the most against all other male harem char. He actually stands out. He's his own personality - he's a nice guy because he feels like it, not because he yearns for the acceptance of her peers. Also, the girls themselves are pretty hot!

Ai Kora.

Love Hina lite, with the male character being more active in chasing women. Like Keitaro, Hachibei shows growth throughout the series and realizes he's head over heels over ONE girl, then proceeds to win her over. He's a go getter and has no problem standing up for his belief or defending those he love (or has the parts he loves).

Ranma 1/2

The first harem series I ever read. Ranma is an interesting take on a male harem character. He's a badass fighter - and for years, he ruled the fanfic world as the best Harem Male Character to write about with ANY female char. pairing and even some male char pairing. He's a low life, but with a heart of gold. He's a twisted, cruel, mean character that can't help but try to do right by the world when there's trouble.
