for the ones that are out of control, yes but i think there needs to be a better way to punish kids than hitting them. my dad got hit when he was younger. then he hit me a kid and i now sometimes resort to violence. 😔

On a more serious note, if they're boys, you could make them wear a dress and walk around the neighborhood, letting all the other kids laugh at them.... that could stop them from misbehaving in future.

humiliation, embaresment........that happened to me but i just got more angry at my parents and started scheming ways to get back at them. 🤣

you guys are talking about resorting to violence as like if because your parents hit you you're going to go out stab someone 80 times or smash someone's head in with a bat. Please, punching someone once or twice because you got angry at them is no problem so long as you don't escalate the violence to the point where you begin arming yourself. Stop being pussies and hit someone.

but can you really say that the reason you are violent today is because you were spanked as a kid. I know plenty of violent people who were not spanked as children, as well as many people who are REALLY not violent who were spanked when they were little.

You see, in the US at least, there's this law against "battery". It sort of says that it isn't "no problem" as long as the other person wants to press charges (well provided they don't enter any sort of voluntary mutual combat, unless it's warranted by self-defense, or at least that's my understanding of it).

Generally speaking, violence isn't the best solution to most problems, and usually isn't the most efficient one either. As for spanking itself, I think it's pretty much dependent entirely upon the situation and the environment. In an otherwise healthy environment where it isn't used as the sole punishment, I think it might have value (and I'm speaking as a kid that was never spanked growing up), but it might only escalate negative environments (which does cause violent tendencies in kids) or send mixed messages if used too often. Other than that, it's a matter of principle. If you act as though you're opposed to violence entirely, you shouldn't be using violence as a method to punish your kids, no matter how small or mild. That's just opinion though.

i wasn't only spanked, i got hit, thumped ect and subjected to mental abuse. there hasn't been anything other than that in my life to explain my behavior.
