What kind of things that makes you turn on when you read Yaoi?

Things that turn me on when reading yaoi..

**1) **It's the feeling of entrapment. Like..the disturbing scenes in Zion no Koeda. That's just hot.

2) Drunk sex (with an uke or seme who used to be straight and not girly..just a normal guy who gets laid by another guy).. oh yes. Like the two guys in 50 x 50 and Aisaretaino

3) Forced rape ..where the uke feels really traumatized.. like the ukes in Zion no Koeda and Sono Kuchibiru ni Yoru no Tsuyu

4) Silhoutte of them having sex. Like the train/dark bedroom sex scenes in Hyakujitsu no Bara

**5) **Them finally having sex after a tense emotional build-up. Like the slow romance in Sorenari ni Shinken nandesu and The Carp on the Chopping Block Jumps Twice or the angsty scene in Shounen Zanzou

**6) **Reversing uke-seme roles. It's a plus if it's a straight uke who wants to be a seme once in a while.

The things that turn me off when I read Yaoi:

1) Both uke/seme look feminine. Mede Shireru Yoru no Junjou

2) Girly ukes and overly possessive seme.

**3) **I usually skip the yaoi manga whenever I see two guys falling in love without no reason at all.

4) Cold uke who turns out to be very submissive when it comes to sexual advances like the ukes from Koisuru Boukun and Hyakujitsu no Bara

5) Yaoi with perfect bishies. And perfect manly guys. Crimson Spell and Totally Captivated

6) I usually avoid reading yaoi mangas with descriptions like:
' A always liked B, even though A cannot accept the fact that B is in love with him. But..he can no longer refuse B's feelings...'
'A was invited by his sempai for a date! What will he do?!'
'A and B were childhood friends..one day they met...'

and any Yaoi that is related to an all-boy's school or dorm life.

**7) **Non-stop meaningless sex.

8) Uke who doesn't make a big deal about him getting raped by some guy. He'll be like 'Oh, I was rape?' then he will eventually have sex with his rapist because he'll learn to enjoy it. 🙄

Ons:

 • feminine or gentle characters in both roles.
 • shy 'top' characters.
 • equal, loving relationships.
 • scenes with rimming, fingering, or other general foreplay before sex. Also, lube and condoms.
 • 'bottom' characters who're really into sex. (i.e. Junko's Star-like Words)
 • manga that makes an attempt to connecting to realistic sexuality.
 • relationships that seem to happen naturally.

Offs:

 • characters who're arrogant jerkwads.
 • military-related plots.
 • bara.

But, really, I take each book on a case-by-case basis. Some books make plots I don't particularly like work like charm, while some make even my favorite things seem rather unappealing.

Turn ons:
Everything you stated except for number 2, drunk sex. I freaking hate it.

Turn offs:
Everything you stated ESPECIALLY number 6. It's just...wtf.

Like nanpa, I take things by a case-by-case basis - some things that I don't think work initially can be done really well. What I definitely like and don't like apply not just to yaoi, but can apply to hetero romance or any other genre.

Turn-on:
I really love the obsessive, all-consuming romance. A romance like in Wuthering Heights probably best describes this. I really love it when I see this in yaoi.

Turn-off:
When the uke is too weak to a crazy extent. And I guess for me this also applies to shojo when the heroine is completely pathetic. Okane Ga Nai best describes this for me.

Let's see....

Turn-ons are:

A seme who REALLY wants his uke, but loves him enough to not force (rape), or trick (and by that I mean getting him drunk or something) him into having sex. And when the long awaited sex scene comes...DAMN, it is soooo worth it. Hot and steamy with some deep kissing. Something like that. :3

and this:

 • scenes with rimming, fingering, or other general foreplay before sex. Also, lube and condoms.

YES, YES, and again YES!!!!! nosebleeds

Tied up ukes or semes with one of them in control and trying to pleasure their partner (minus the whip, other toys and the dominatrix oufit)

Faithful semes.

I also really enjoy some hot and heavy hot springs action of course. >/////<

The jealous seme of course. Nothing's hotter than a guy fighting for his man!

An uke (not the slutty, sleeps around with a bunch of guys type) who is the pursuer and a seme being pursued.

An uke riding the seme nice and hard. ^__^

Ukes who want to be on the top, but in the end aren't fit for the role and end up losing themselves in the pleasure once the seme takes over.

For me, I love yaoi manga with nice angles, for example, explicit scenes that clearly show the seme inserting his d*** into the ukes a**. (I'm exploding here, just so you know.)

And then there's the facial expressions and cries of pleasure that send violent chills down my spine. This is why translation is important in a yaoi manga, so thanks to all you wonderful scanlators out there!

Turn-offs are:

The overly-feminine uke, showing no traces of manhood whatsoever other than his d***. See Okane ga Nai for an example.

Rapist seme (and this may sound weird, but I guess it depends on the situation?) Though I do loathe this act nonetheless.

Jerkass seme, slutty uke, slutty seme, ect.

The type of uke that every guy wants to screw for no real reason other than physical lust. And then when the uke kind of just LETS it happen.

Violent seme, which sorta connects with the rapist part I suppose.

Bara. barf I tried reading it, but in the end it was a bit...too real for me.

I don't really like S+M, though there are probably like one or two exceptions... (see above) I just hate the insertion of random objects coughCORN!cough, or the gag balls, whip, collar, ect.

An insanely and overly-jealous seme/uke. If it's played for comedy though, then that's fine.

And this also applies to me as well:

I take each book on a case-by-case basis. Some books make plots I don't particularly like work like charm, while some make even my favorite things seem rather unappealing.

Turn ons:

 • Dominant uke. However, I don't like it as they switched rolls (i.e. the seme acts like a uke).
 • Versatile. Love it, especially when you least except it.
 • Obsessive seme. On a line to almost psychopathic feeling.
 • Age gap. Too bad mostly is 20/30 (ten years age gap), I would like to see somethings that's 30/40 or even 20/40.
 • Smoking, gun, violence, blood. (haha)

Turn offs:

 • Unserious plot and characters. Well, it could be a good read sometimes, but it's not a turn on.
 • Somebody getting forced/raped and then realize they like it. I just find it unlogical, force/rape could be nice but it often turns out bad.
 • Too much feminine.
 • Typical situations. Like someone is sick, and then his friend take cares of him, and then they fall in love and bla bla bla. Sure it's cute but it's SO typical just to get them together.

All I could think of. 😳

I was skimming through the forums and just had to join :3

Turn-ons:

*Reversible roles. Just love it.
*Non-girly uke. I like them normal, same as seme if possible.
*Age gap. The older the seme the better. Unfortunatley all I ever find is under older uke category and that I just really don't like. Or the age gap is 1x/2x-3x. I'd like something more of a 20/40.
*(my, my..)
I'll just say same as w-zzy, minus the dominant uke.
*Hot shower scenes. (yum-yum)
*I like everything drawn clearly and visible. It's just the best.

Turn-offs:

*Forced rape and they like it. That's just stupid.
*Girly uke. Slutty uke and/or seme. Whiny uke, weak seme..and so on..
*Bara. Yuck. It's just too manly-men for me.
*Though I enjoy light S+M, I don't particulary like too much of it. (though there are exceptions Hoshi no Yakata <--loved it)

Counts for me as well:

Quote from nanpa

Concerning the plot; I'm not very bothered by it. If I wish to read something with a good plot I'll find it and if it's just random smexing all around I love it 😀

We're quite similar in the turn ons/offs. I'm not a very big fan of older ukes either, unless they're dominant, haha. I could give you some age gap 20/40 stories but it doesn't fit with your other dislikes.

Oh, speaking of slutty ukes, I find it as a turn on!

Turn ons:

 • Muscular characters and steamy sex (as long as there is a good plot and all 😀 )
 • Cute, but manly seme 🙂

Turn offs:

 • stick-figure characters 😔
 • hardcore BDSM
 • girly uke/seme
 • oldies
 • furries

Oh, could you give me those stories. Even if they clash with my dislikes I'd still like to read them. But if the uke is older then better not >_<

ON:
RIBA (reversible) !!!
older/manly/dominant/more experienced bottoms, basically I like it a lot when the uke can one up the seme
slutty bottoms...
first time sex
sadist x masochist couple
i also love bondage lol ^p^

OFF:
rape, there are some exceptions though, but generally i hate any kind of rape
super old guys (55+)
little boys (15-)
crying during sex, saying "no!" "stop!" in a supposedly consensual sex scene
possessive, jealous lovers
cheating mofos, especially if their lover is too docile to do anything about it
huge size difference between the top/bottom
typical seme/uke deal

there's always an exception to the rule but generally

Turn Ons:
-BDSM and D/S
-threesomes
-horny and/or aggressive ukes (especially when the uke yells "more" and "yes" during sex)
-strong ukes (meaning mental strength but I also like physically strong ukes)
-military uniforms
-masculine couples (but NOT bara characters who look like body builders on steroids)
-muscles, like six-packs (again, not bara)
-public sex
-couples getting caught in the middle of the act
-reversible couples
-masturbation (especially when its the uke and he plays with the front and back)
-lube and condoms
-uncensored scenes
-silhouette of couple having sex
-gay couples (neither of them were straight previously)
-forbidden relationships

Turn Offs:
-most rape=love stories (unless the mangaka does a good job of showing the uke slowly falling in love rather than the usual story where the uke falls in love with his rapist for no good reason)
-love at first sight (probably comes from the fact that I don't believe in love at first sight in RL)
-short sex scenes, or when the manga doesn't show the sex scene. Its like come on, sex is part of the definition of yaoi
-shota (I personally consider shota to be a boy who isn't a teenager, so 12/13 and younger)
-ukes that are too feminine (especially when they end up cross-dressing)
-stereotypical all-boys school where everyone is gay
-when the uke says "no!" "stop!" in a supposedly consensual sex scene
-small penis (this is usually just me hating the way the mangaka draws it, the guy isn't supposed to have a small one)
-weak/stupid ukes that always need to be protected and/or saved by the seme

Agreed ! 🤣
I want dominant and obsessive semes, but I don't like jerks.

Turn-off :

 • When the uke is utterly useless, and cannot do anything through the whole manga except crying & whining.
 • When the uke looks like (if not is) an 8-year old.
 • Absence of plot
 • INCEST (No offense, but that just makes my skin crawl...)
