Animal/Human Romance!

Looking for an animal/human romance wherein the animal is in human form at least some of the time AND is an actual animal to begin with.
No werewolves or other people-turned-beasts, please - the original creature must have been a true animal. It's the human form that is "put on," you know? The animal form is the original one.
Supernatural/fantastic animals (such as dragons or unicorns) are okay. Normal animals are great, too. 🙂
I'm sorry. I'm really not as depraved as I sound. 🤨

I dont know if you would take an anime suggestion, but Spice and Wolf sounds like that. Its about a HUGE she-wolf named Horo/Holo that can take on the form of a human girl if she so desires. She travels with a merchant named Lawrence since he promised to help her find where she was born.
