I liked the 1st generation pokemons better than the succeeding generation. I wouldn't have mind if they started adding new pokemons as long as they don't replace the old ones with the new pokemons, but yet they did, just like in the anime. after that I didn't care anymore.
I used to have posters containing all pokemons. but now..
haa.. good times.

Quote from KennEH!

I liked the second gen a lot. :3 Though I think there still are some good ones, not a big ratio as with the older generations, but still worth it. Besides it does make the game more believable, Pokemon replacing animals and all.

I don't think pokemons are replacing animals in the pokemon world. there should still be normal animals in the series, with all those meat and all that they eat.. unless they're pokemon(milktank) meat.

I like most of the pokemon up until 4th gen and remember most of them. But honestly the pokemon in 5th gen is horrible. Most of them look so weird, they are like robots?? and I have so much trouble remember what is what though everything else about the game is good.
I've always played any new pokemon games, my first & 1 of my favourite games, but I'm not sure if I'll continue starting from 5th gen. The pokemon are really ugh! Can't stand it. 😔
But I agree that the orginal 151 pokemon are the best! 😃

As most people have said, after G/S it went downhill. Even then there were some bad ones. I hate the 3rd and 4th generations...and I don't even know the 5th. There are a few decent ones in the later gens but they should've just taken the good ones and made one new generation, not friggin' 3 more!

(And what's with the legendary white one for the newest pokemon games? It looks like it has an erection!)

i never really liked that type of game...RPG-breeding games...boring and repetative

the anime on the other hand was very entertaining and still is...i think i prefer pokemon bw over diamond and pearl...its too early to say

i allways liked Kasumi
Haruka and Hikari are cute too
musashi is...cute too

the ugly little deformed animals are not that interesting...

i started with the second generation (gold) and later got the other game of it, because i liked the story so much, but didn´t want to erease my game. i bought the first game where you could chose between genders (crystal) right on the day it first want on sale. i later played yellow two. everything was great. then, thirs generation came. the rival was very weak, no real story after i became the champ.. i finished ruby in a day and spend the other 600+ hours to get my pokedex done. i bought smaragd because i thought it would be better, but no. remake of the first generation... very interesting. the god things from the first generations were still there, and in some things it got even better. 4th generation... boring story, strange looking pokemon which got really strange names by the dubbers (the plant evolution of evee was a rumor in previous generations and it was called Blattara on fanbase (blatt = leaf; ara/ana = end of the german names of evees evolutions), but the dubbers decided on Floripurba). the story in platinum was a bit better, but still... now 2nd generation remake... best pokemon game i ever played... 5th generation: will be released in march here, but a friend of mine got the japanese edition and it looked really interesting. only the pokemon don´t look like pokemon anymore

Gold was my last pokemon game and I was not as obsessed with it as I was with Red, Blue and Yellow. I can only remember the first generation of pokemon and maybe handful of the second by picture but no names. As for the anime, well I saw he orange isands and no more.

Obviously I think the 1st generation of games and the 1st film was the best, but that's because that was the height of the pokemania when I was growing up. I was 11 by the time gold came out and my interest was waning, so I think I just grew out of pokemon rather the game getting worse. That's why they always re-make it, because kids grow up and move on. I think the fondness for the first 151 is more nostalgia than anything. Like I think the orignial "Scooby doo where are you" are miles better than any of the newer series, I can't stand scrappy doo but my 4 year old nephew loves him.

I can't really jude though, I know nothing about the current incarnation, so it could very well be awful.

I do not approve of this thread. And yes, I do love the games and the anime(watch the dub every week) and unlike most of the people here, my list of preferred generations would have to go like this, from Favorite to Least Favorite (though I love them all, just not equally):

Gen 4, Gen 5(haven't played it, but followed Serebii's coverage), Gen 3, Gen 1, Gen 2

I have, since my last post, changed my mind. I was being a twat, and don't mind the additional pokemon. What's wrong with the natural expansion of the series, after all?

I do, however, dislike the "national dex" preventing me from catching certain pokemon before beating the elite four. It would be fine if they simply weren't in areas I could reach, but the way they "suddenly appear" just because I had my pokedex updated is odd.

I don't. I grew up with Pokemon, and as much as I loved the original games, every new generation has gotten better and better. They've added more variety in the Pokemon. Sure some of them are kind of random, and others are just plain crap, but to say only the original 150 are good is stupid, imo. There were plenty of crap Pokemon in the original 150.

I understand why people say that though - they can't get over the nostalgia.

Why do they need to add so many new ones all the time? It's irritating that they're abusing the pokemon concept to such an extent, just to get more money...

The concept of pokemon is not abused by moneymaking. Isn't that the concept behind it? "How can we, Nintendo, get Moar Moneez?"

Or am I missing something?

Um... because people would complain if they released games with all the same Pokemon in them, never adding more. It's like a racing game adding more cars to it, or a shooter adding more weapons. A new game should be, you know, new. Not the exact same game in a new location.

They could add features/change things about the gameplay more, and add only a few pokemon, while keeping the old ones around though.
