Immortal Rain

The main character, Machika, is a young assassin, and even though she doesn't always win, she can fight on pretty equal standing with some people. She's not all weak and "save me". The best part of it all is that this is actually shoujo, so there's romance. It's so cute!

Chrono Crusade

This one is shounen with elements of shoujo (romance). The female lead, Rosette Christopher, is a very strong character. ^^

In the beginning there isn't any female fighting.. But from Volume 3, you'll see some great female characters.. The protagonist is female too, but in the beginning she's still a baby and you'll gradually see her grow up..

At volume 5 she'll be 16-18 with pretty good fighting skills.. It's similar to Vagabond, btw..

No offense to anyone but these skinny girls are starting to make me tired of seeing so many skinny people. They show amazingly strong girls but where's the frelling muscle? I know, the dog knows, and the kid next door knows that with great strength and durability comes with great muscle.

Sorry about ranting right there but it's been bugging me for a while. well, more than a while but it's bugging me.

well gunnm is a great example. gally is like the ultimate ass kicker in the whoel story. then there is gunnm last order in which gally kicks ass x20 but is owned by the ultimate ass kicker the vampire vilma.
then there's black cat with three females that can kick ass in my opinion namely eve, kyoko and sephira.
then most of the girls in mahou sensei negima.
frankly i tend to see more manga in which the girls can kick ass on their own, and usually have the guy sit back and take a break.
