I got curious on what people would do. Well, since I'm one of those picky eaters, I ask for something else but If I were with someone else I'd just sit there quietly and eat a little.

Well everything i eat i either make or order myself, and it's probably the same with a lot of others unless they eat their mom's cooking or are rich enough for a maid lol.

If I'm at someone's house and they're having something I'm not a fan of, I'll always try to eat at least some of it, otherwise it feels like I'm being rude.

If it's a food I really can't stand (something with mint, etc.) then I'll avoid eating it, or maybe just claim I'm not hungry.

Um...in what context are we talking here?

Off the top of my head, I can't think of anything that I don't like to eat. I'm not a big fan of capers, but if they are not too overpowering, then I'm fine.

But if I do run into something else that I don't like:
If it's while meeting my girlfriend's parents or something, then I will eat as much as I can stomach (unless she says something about it).

Or, an important function, the bosses house, or something like that, then I will eat as much as possible.

If my girlfriend is the one who cooked it though, then I always tell her that I don't like it...no point starting out with a lie right? If I say that I like it now, then she will keep cooking it. The first time that my present girlfriend cooked for me, I told her how terrible it was...the meat was dry, the sauce had no flavour and the vegetables were cooked to mush.

that depends on the situation cuz:
* if it was in a restaurant or cafe & they brought me food i don't like by mistake cuz i'd never order something i didn't like then i'd just ask them to give me what i ordered
* but if it was at a some kind of party or celebration & it would be rude to not eat i'd try a little, hey maybe it's good, but i would eat something else if there was & if not i'd well ask for something, i don wanna starve if possible ya knowXD

so i choose - eat a little bit

this happens almost everyday because im VERY picky with food
i hate almost all types of food
im also very picky with sweets/desserts...i dont like them if they're too sweet or syrup-based
if its a friend i say "im on a diet" or comeup with some other excuse
if its a close friend i wouldnt care because all of them know how picky i am with what i eat
if its mom...nothing will work. she'll force the food down my throught whether i like it or not.

In most situations I eat almost anything. I'm not a fussy eater. Being fussy is troublesome when you're a hungry and lazy student who can't be asked to cook nice meals all the time.

I will give try it and if I don't like it, then I wont eat it if there are other alternative foods around. If I'm hungry and that's the only thing there, I take what I'm given.

If there were absolutely no other choice and it would be rude not to eat it, I'd eat as much of it as I could. I'm not particularly picky about food but there are a few common dishes I can't stand, like macaroni cheese. It's not usually the taste I can't stand but the texture.

One time I went round a friend's house for a cocktail party where my friend was cooking a meal. We started drinking beforehand on a completely empty stomach so I was already feeling quite ill when she served the meal. It was some sort of pasta in this weird creamy sauce, the texture was awful and it had huge bits of mushrooms in it too, which I hate, so the whole thing made me feel like throwing up. Man, I felt awful that I couldn't finish my plate when she'd worked pretty hard on it.

I just think I'd never throw a dinner party where there's only one choice of meal because I'd be terrified someone would hate it and have to go through all this trouble trying to pretend they don't. I guess it's a lot of trouble to make more than one thing but you should at least warn all the guests what you're cooking and ask if that's ok so they can tell you beforehand if there're gonna be any problems.

i dont want to be rude and it just feels like im insulting starving people by not eating it, so i'll probably eat a little bit.. or just get a small portion.. or it depends onwhere im eating. if its at home, im just going to flat out say it.. politely of course, but they know me all too well. i dont eat liver, pork and any kind of sea food so.. yeah. if its outside, i guess eating it will be my last resort but if i can get out of it by excusing myself.

The only thing I hate so much I just can't force myself to eat (or even smell) is a herring, in every form. Once I was on a family dinner and there was a salad with herring in it - I didn't know that so I tasted it... and then I stood up, ran to the bathroom and spat it out. Thankfully, it didn't ruin the evening.
If something else that I don't like very much was served, I would probably just eat a little, and if someone asked me why I'm not eating I'd say I'm not hungry, I think.

This kind of thing happens with me very often too, because I dislike sour, spicy, bitter, salty, and overly sweet foods. There's not much that I actually like, but I make do with them.

If it's my mom, then I would flat out not eat it. Chances are, she'll either make something else or I would find stuff to munch and satisfy my hunger. Mostly it's the second case.
If I'm out with my friends, and I ordered something I didn't know I would dislike, then I would just order something else. But if it's eating at someone else's home and the adult cooked it, I would try to eat as much as I can to show my respect, though there are certain foods I just can't eat because it's totally disgusting, then I would excuse my rude behavior to the host.
