I like creativity. I like it If the author manages to create a certain atmosphere as early as possible and that he/she stays true to it throughout the story. What many stories lack is that you don't have the feel with it until half way through.

However, I don't like it when the story is supposed to be realistic, and they suddenly drag in something that have no place in reality. 😀 😎

[quote My favorite story plot is girl gets taken into another world and has many adventures with the guy she loves.] Also my favorite too!
Also i like ones with strong female leads, alot of action/adventure,and a bit of romance. Also for some odd reason i like the plotline where a girl and guy are forced to get married and the girl secretly likes him.? i dont really know why.

as for ones i hate it would probably be ecchi/yaoi/yuri/shouen ai/shoujo ai/smut. ecchi cause of all the stupid skimpy outfits and pointless pantyshots just like said. I REALLY hate the smut plotines that are pretty much where a girl and a guy like each other for no reason,an do it for like 40 pages. Wth?

Hate : Girls trying to get the guy plots. sooooooo STUPID.

I enjoy plots in which is is genuinely unclear as to whether the designated 'good guys' will ultimately win- or even better, there is no defined 'good' and 'evil' as such. Of course, when done badly such things get downright predictable and horribly cliche.

My biggest hate would probably have to be those in which all female characters are so horrifically over-feminized or just downright air-headed that they're simply cringe worthy. And even worse those which play to the stereotype of 'all guys must be totally badass and bish'.

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with having the odd one or two, but when half the cast is made up of giggling, whining brats or two-dimensional macho men then it's just gone too far.

I like the ones with good story and characters.

Well that was little too plain so I'll explain it better about how I come to like a manga..

Each Manga has its own plus and minuses for me

Pluses

  1. Good story [not messed up like elfen lied]
  2. The Great characters which force you to read the manga [Monkey D luffy, Hiruma Yoichi are perfect examples]
  3. Good character devlopment [when the main character becomes strong from a pathetic wimp who can only run for cover for example Shamo, Parasyte]
  4. Violence [Decent Violence like in Gantz, Holyland]
  5. Good art style
    Minuses
  6. Useless violence = messed up story [like Elfen lied]
  7. Bad art style The World is Mine
  8. Unrequited love [all genres like Yaoi, Yuri, Shounen Ai, Shoujo Ai]
  9. Almost no character devlopment Yume de Aetara
  10. No great characters

Thats all is what means for me

I really don't know~ I enjoy a lot of different types of stories...
But there's a part I really like. When a person gets sick, and the other takes care of him/her...
Something really attracts me there.

Hated types...
Mmm, although many of the yaoi I've seen are like that... (still read most though).
I really hate the idea of "kind of love at first sight"...
Examples would be:
-X sees Y, thinks how "something something" Y is, and goes after Y...
-X has a deal with Y, and later they fall in love, well, X falls in love first, Y resists, they end up sleeping together... (again).

However cute it might be, I don't really like it... Takes away from the story for me.

Can't think of something else now~

Likes
-Really strong main character who is generally very stupid and does whatever the fuck they want
-morally ambiguous or hated main character

Dislikes
-Smutty shojo (for some reason it just grosses me out, and the art is always bad)
-Plots that revolve around two characters getting together, but then for no real reason they don't (oops the main love interest just turned into a tree for no reason, the end) >:-(

you know what i've realized all the major good seinen main characters have one thing in common before they were thrown into the plot they were regular people, when i say regular i just mean they dont have this special power hidden inside them that everyone wants, and they sorta grow into being the main character, like kureno from gantz or gutts from berserk; rather then being set up as the main character from the start like so many shounen heroes are . alright sure this isnt really a plot line but its something i like to see and i wish there were more shounen titles were kinda like this but their attempts at it are mostly messed up harems (however ai kora was pretty good) with these really weak leads

i must admit i too am against rape love.
mind you, i personally think that if a girl is stupid enough to fall in love with that kind of guy, then she kinda has it coming that she's gonna get screwed over.
the plot that i really hate is when theres the COMPLETELY USELESS girl who just cries all the time and gets herself in difficult situations and then the COMPLETELY PERFECT guy falls in love with her...what exactly?... and goes to extremes to save her and protect her and all that. WHILE THE GIRL DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

call me corny, cliche, whatever, but i must admit i do love a good old main character with secret power they never knew they had and which eventually becomes the most POWERFUL power anyone's ever seen! 😲

I like any decent plot, with a good story telling and characters worthy of it, I can read anything with a good/awesome plot... scratch that, any kind of plot with no Yaoi, Futa, Gender Bender or Yuri.

Hated? crappy and unreal plots, plots in with no one important ever dies (or gets badly hurt and out of the action for a while), the lead can own anyone and anything, plots with little to none character development in with a idiot person will always act like an idiot and don't show any kind of growth, plots in with comedy is heavily used because it doesn't have any other good points (most Gag manga), plots that rely in cheap tools to keep going and plots with Yaoi, Futa, Gender Bender or Yuri

However, those are rules that can be bended 😃

It depends on the genre, though. On seinen, overused, 'the-world's-gonna-get-destroyed-so-what-you're-gonna-do-about-it?' scheme, or something to that effect, and unnecessary gory scenes that don't make sense except to show how badass the protagonist/villain is. Plus, all those complicated, mysterious, mind-screwing plot twists that are far too epic for the story alone and would take a more decent storytelling and greater characterization to handle.

On josei, I hate all those mangas starting with this typical OL setting, wherein the main heroine's all weepy and melodramatic because she hasn't found the love of her life or whatever 🙄 And, my gosh, ZOMG, she has a new coworker/acquantance/old friend/some stranger she just met/or completely random bishounen guy who just so happens to be the love of her life and they immediately embark on a love-hate relationship.

On shounen, endless fighting arcs that don't seem to add up and contribute to the story as a whole. Who cares if our hero defeated a whole bunch of baddies before he could make his way to X or meet super villain boss Y and so on and so forth?

On shoujo, the typical, badly-done love triangle (e.g. two guys after the same girl) that makes you feel frustrated and bang your head on the wall. There's nothing bad with love triangles in general, but when butchered up by the manga-ka, you wish you spent your time better elsewhere.
And yup, clumsy, unstable heroines who can't make their heads up and is a walking accident-in-the-making is a major no-no as well. Girls can DO something, on the contrary. Weak, indecisive and completely immature heroines should be banned.
Apart from that, anything by Shinju Mayu. My god, guys cough assholes cough who claim to 'love' the girls and rape them because of it are supposed to be OKAY? 😲 Lord, that's even lamer than nine year old boys picking on members of the opposite sex just to get their attention.

I don't read anything guro though, never been able to stand them, unless I've found one with an über amazing plot. Yaoi and yuri not so much, since I found most of them sadly lacking in content and substance to make their 'relationships' engaging, or believable at most. The only thing that keeps them going is the explicit content of same sex action, which isn't enough.

My favorite type of story plot:
-protaganists going on a quest
-good character and story plot development
-good story arcs
-protaganists who have complex characters and moral or noble intentions
-A storyline that grabs the readers' attention
-unique art styles

My least favorite type of story plot:
-protaganists who are cowardly, perverted or both
-lots of fanservice over plot and character development
-some plot that remains unsolved
-repetitive fights/ violence
-mediocre humors

I don't like long stories, simple enough. I don't quite enjoy arcs.I also hate stories where far too many characters are introduced. I like characters who are extremely realistic, a character normal people could perhaps relate to, without being too moral or too immoral.
I'd go into artistic aspects, but this thread is focused on plot, so...
