Eh, I'm not the type who usually makes requests, but I thought I might as well in this case, since I'm already here, and there's a pretty good chance I'm overlooking a manga that would work for me.

My basic request is that I want a shounen or seinen manga that features a number of sexy female characters who are treated as serious characters and are not there just to look at. I would like the series either to have a female main character, or an interesting male main character who is not some average/loser/idiot typical shonen lead guy. I'd prefer if harem conventions were kept to a minimum or at least could be overlooked. Shoujo-ai subtext/context is not a requirement but it is definitely not frowned upon.

Just to give you an idea of a couple series like this I've enjoyed:
Claymore
Mai-HiME (anime version, definitely not manga)

and as an example of such a series with a male lead:
Code Geass

• Yozakura Quartet - sounds interesting. But of course it's not available to read online.

• Battle Royale - maybe, I'd have a lot of catching up to do though.

• Basilisk - never really interested me

• The Yagyu Ninja Scrolls - sounds somewhat interesting.

• Boku no Futatsu no Tsubasa - read it. loved it.

• Mahoromatic - the male lead looks a little weak.

• Real Bout High School - I saw the anime (which kinda sucked) and read a few volumes of the manga. Never really been compelled to look at more.

• Chokotto Sister - again, the guy in this looks kinda lame.

• Eden - same as with Battle Royale.

None of them really stood out to me, but thanks for the suggestions. I'd really prefer newer series that are still being scanned and don't have an overwhelming number of chapters for me to read just yet.

i think Samurai Champloo is great for you. its for adults, has the one of the best action ever, awesome characters, awesome music, and is super hilarious. its super cool because its historical japan, but its doesnt feel like it at all. it feels very modern because of the hip hop//urban mood. its one of a kind (:

Yeah, Champloo's a great anime (but one I've seen before). I'm not sure how well it fits into what I asked for though, as there's really only one important, fleshed-out female character and she's not even that sexy (though she is sexy).

Cool, thanks. These ones actually look pretty interesting at first glance, I'll definitely have to look into some of them and see how closely they fit what I'm looking for. I really have no previous history when it comes to manwha but I don't see why that should matter if its a good story and stuff (except Korean names have always confused me a little for some reason). Black Lagoon Don't let it fool ya. The main female lead isn't fan service, and though the male lead isn't strong physically he ain't a fool.

I've been considering watching the Black Lagoon anime for some time. I hadn't really heard about the manga though. Thanks for the idea.

whos sexy in Eden? All I see are loli characters,its odd bringing in young girls in wars anyway 😮 ...and my addition is Freezing but it has loads of fan service/ecchi as the author n the artist are same as aflame inferno...

and I highly recommend Black Lagoon anime a lot,

Revy is so damn cool (the gun female) and there is a Russian mafia head who must be one of the most cruel woman in that anime. Actually the only one who seems to have some conscience is that "weak guy" who actually is a very good strategist! I also saw the sequel Second Barrage which is a good follow up for the first.

My surprise is that Mahou Sensei Negima wasn't mentioned at all in this.

I don't mind loli so much. It's not exactly what I'm looking for though. Thanks for telling me. Now I know to stay away from that one for now.

And I seriously don't mind fanservice. If the girls are at least fleshed out in terms of character I don't care if they're sexualized to death (though there is a point where it can become annoying). Either way, Freezing looks like another oen I'll definitely have to check out.

And yeah, I pretty much have decided Black Lagoon will be the next licensed anime I watch.

Yeah, I've hear Negima's an all right manga series (though very loli and kinda harem-ish). Unfortunately I made the grave mistake of watching the anime adaptation, so I'm naturally a little hesitant to pick up the manga.

Don't worry, that was one of the worst anime adaption, the manga is totally different and it's not so loli as one could think (though it's really harem-ish imho).

Yeah I've heard how different the manga is. I might look into it eventually, I'm just a little wary after going through the torture that was the anime version (though it did have its moments; I really liked those two lesbian girls, they were cute).

And of course I've seen Kannazuki no Miko. It's a real favorite of mine even though it is a seriously flawed show.

Now I'm officially wondering how can you also have enjoyed something like Mai-HiME...

Another suggestion that I just thought is Shina Dark. It's definitely too early to give a judgement about it, but it looks promising. There is a male lead, but it's almost a secondary character in comparison to the girls (well I know I'm a little contradictory, but it's not easy to explain it). And it also could gain points 'cause it doesn't look like an harem imho (despite the tag 😛 ).
Nagasarete Airantou could also fit. But if you think that Negima is loli, so is this one (and I also didn't read more than 2 vol so I can't really say where the story is going to).
