Does anybody know of manga (movies, novels) that touches upon this topic? Relationships between older-younger samurai, stories about male prostitutes, anything like that. I read about it here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexuality_in_Japan and I'm fascinated! ><

What I've read/seen so far: Vagabond, Blade of the Immortal (there is a hint of that sort of relationship between Shira and Renzo, and then there's the former male prostitute in the mugai-ryu), Gohatto

And I'd prefer not to read yaoi, (not looking for the explicit side of these relationships, just more info and good fiction written about it) but if it has a great storyline bring it on!

@Hespia Klarerin: i think the answer would be "not really" accept if there is a lot less emphasise on the sex part than usually is in BL stories, or if there is a lot to the story.

But going by tags, there really isn't much that is yaoi and has samurai in it, or ninja.
Besides what is on the two lists i know there is one more yaoi title that is sort of mix of jidaigeki and futuristic setting but can't really remember the title.
I know there is quite few titles that don't go into BL genre that are dealing with this topic, but it's been so long since i last read them that i can't remember the titles any more D:

I filtered with Shounen-ai and samurai, and got:

My suggestion is to do a search on this site- filtering out yaoi and picking 'historical' and 'shounen ai' for 'genre' and choosing 'samurai' under 'categories'. I usually read explicit yaoi, so I can't really help in recommending any particular non-explicit shounen-ai titles! Good luck!

Yama Fu-Tang is pretty much exactly what you're looking for. It's by the same author as Basilisk.

Thanks very much for the suggestions everyone! Yeah I did do a filter for yaoi, shounen-ai, historical, drama etc. I found a lot of titles which were set in a fantasy ancient japan.. not what I'm looking for unfortunately.

I love samurai manga that are based on actual figures in history. There are some examples of real-life couplings mentioned in this blog: http://yaoi-manga.blogspot.com/2007/02/samurai-gay-story.html.

Ouchou Haru no Yoi no Romance is pretty close to what you're looking for if my memory serves me correctly, though it's kinda shota imo.

Oretachi wa Kokode Koi o Suru is about a high school student travelling back in time into ancient Japan. Recommended!
