First of all, if the artwork of a manga is not tolerable at all, then I probably wouldn't even pick up the manga (if I didn't care about the art at all, I would read a novel). Sometimes though, I make exeptions and art that I wasn't too fond of before, I was able to get past it because of the story (and looking at the art long enough). So yeah, as long as it's not too terrible w/ a good story, I'm usually ok with that.

I'm a big fan of art but I will tolerate average art if the plot gets interesting. Plus I find that the art usually improves as the story goes on.

I search according to the plot summary.. but if the art isn't that good then I'd probably lose interest.. Same goes for if the art is good and the plot isn't.. I haven't encountered one like that though.. Usually the good artwork mangas have pretty good storyline too.. Anyways.. There should be a balance like most people say.

I like light-hearted shoujo manga so I started reading Nadeshiko Club.. But the art was really... awkward at the beginning, imo.. But I stuck with it and I thought the plot was really sweet and the artwork got a lot better later on.. really.

If the plot is really good and the art is under average than I would tolerate the art 😮

it has to be the plot cuz even if the art is not that good the author can take more time and draw it better. But if the plot is retarded even if it is the best art out there i am not gonna read it... unless it is hentai.

For me, it's usually art. If it's no good, then I would never be able to get pass chapter 1. However, if the plot is really, really good, then I tolerate. On the other hand, if the art is unique, then I fall in love. Actually, it depends. If it's unique and pretty, then I fall in love. Like Five, see? Most people think that the artwork is, well, crap. But personally, I love it.

So, yeah. I pick art. I settle for the unoriginal, because it's a safe zone for me.

the art draws me in and the plot keeps me hooked. 🙂

The art has to be decent, well I'm usually very touchy about it. But if the plot is very good I'm not entirely that bothered about artwork, but I won't read if its really bad.

And I third what kiddo also stated.

I mostly read manga based off of plot but I like art that is tolerable. If the plot is fantastic and the art is not so much, I'll probably still read it as long as the plot can keep me interested.

I'm not a diehard shoujo manga fan but i think for shoujo manga, a great art is a neccessary. This is because most shoujo manga revolves around romantic relationship, there's little room for any action and the great art helps in this department.

If i had to say it, a great shoujo manga would have both, good plot and great art, so whenever i try to look for new shoujo manga, i'd usually look at the plot summary first and then the art. So you can say that i value the plot more than the art but not so much, cause in the end, great art always please the eye 🙂

I have yet to come a crossed a manga with bad enough art to make me stop reading it but there has been many with bad plots that I just couldn't finish. So I guess plot is more important to me. That being said art can easily make a good manga into a great one. If both art and plot are good I kinda get sucked into it and sometimes forget that I am reading. So both are very important but if I had to sacrifice the quality of one for the sake of the other I prefer worse art over worse plot.

Well it has to be both really. Some manga whose art I didn't really like, but loved the plot, I read it sometimes, like Mitsuru Adachi's works, I don't like his art, but I love baseball manga. But sometimes the art is gorgeous, but the plot sucks and is cliche(shinjo mayu, minami kanan). So it has to be both for me to really really like it(skip beat, beauty pop).

Usually the plot but if the art is terrible beyond all words and looks really badly done then it'd have to be one hell of a plot to make me want to read it, generally their has to be a balance for it to be a truly successful manga.

I'm a sucker for good art so I'd probably go for that. However, if I can get both good art and plot, then why not? 🤣
