Quote from kiddo

the art draws me in and the plot keeps me hooked. 🙂

i agree.... although Kimi Wa Petto is horribly ugly in my opinion, but the plots are great, but if it looked like Nana......i might of enjoyed it even more, but yeah.....i cant read a manga just because it has good art, and a weak plot....but a manga with bad art, has to have very good plot for me to mess with it

I admit it;
It's usually the art that lures me to a manga first.
YES, I AM SHALLOW.
But the plot doesn't stray too far behind.
I've read manga's with brilliant plots and ugly art before so it's not a problem.
...ish.

Im an AMATEUR manga author, and

first by its art then plot.
But that's just me, dunno bout everyone else.

I need both to some degree but I prefer plot. As long as I'm not repulsed by the art I'll stick around if the plot is good.

It takes pretty bad drawings to turn me away...

**If the art isn't up to my standards I probably will avoid it. **

beautiful art is a must. i don`t care if the manga has the best plot in the world and it is the greatest manga of all time, but has ugly drawing.....

beautiful art is a must.

It's both for me.
The art pulls me in, and the plot keeps my wallet from crying, and my clock.

If the art is crappy, but I hear the plot is good, it'll take me a couple tries, but I'll read it eventually. Example: Hana Yori Dango. Buh-Jeeze, the art sucked for me. It took me... months to actually pick it up. It got better in the later chapters, and I know the art isn't exactly up-to-date, but still... it pushed me away for a couple moments. =[

If the art is pretty, but the plot is crappy, I feel I wasted an hour of my life on pretty books with meanless words. I'll just pick up the Cat in the Hat if I wanted that. 🤣

Both. I first take notice of the manga/manhwa because of the title, then read the summary and skim the art. If they are to my liking I decide to read the first few pages and if I like the first chapter I buy it and continue to read it.
But sometimes I just fall in love with neither the plot or the art, just the title. XD
But I think the plot matters more, because the plot of the story can make the art flourish in the darkness...and sometimes you can see a development of the art style which makes you think that mangakas are real people...(I sometimes think they are aliens who art smarter than us and have such good writing and art skills)

Well, even if the art is good and the plot not so good, then I can invest on it still, since it helps me improve my art skills...yeah, I use it as a tutorial. XD

plot only.

i really don't care about art at all. 99% of mangakas i've come across draw better than i do, so i'm not complaining. i have very low standards for art but extremely high standards for plot.

i do appreciate good art, but it becomes a null point to me nonetheless since i personally visualize EVERYTHING i read, even if the pictures are provided for me like in manga.

good art for me only serves good purpose when i'm making ava/sigs/wallpapers.

It needs both. But if it boils down to it I'll go with plot since art is usually similar in shoujo so i can imagine what it would look like.

Uhh why do read manga if the art basically has no meaning to you?

I'm very wishy-washy on this issue. I say that I like plot over art, but my book shelf is full of series that are beautifully drawn and make absolutely no sense. 🤢 ( Hane Hari no Kimi, Alichino, President Dad...)

I like a good story, but it's the art that usually catches my eye, not the plot description, so in the end, I have more art-oriented series than story series. 🤨

When it comes to shoujo, art doesn't matter as much to me as the story. I can usually bypass a style that I don't care for or artwork that isn't very good if the characters and plot get me hooked.

I wouldn't feel the same towards shounen/seinen, though. If the art sucks in a guy series I don't care how great it's supposed to be, I'll skip it right over. And probably read me some more shoujo. 😎

The plot. All to often I've fallen prey to manga with gorgeously drawn characters only to find the story lacking. On the other hand, if the plot is good, that itself will make the characters and drawings more attractive 🙂

However, it's even better if the manga has a good plot AND quality art e.g. Nana, Paradise Kiss, After School Nightmare, Kanata Kara, etc.
