Like I said, what is being made now is not hip hop, it's pop music. Just like the so called "R&B", a la Chris Brown, Akon and the rest. Just because black people make it doesn't make it rap/r&b.
dats a goin a lil too far bro, da indie scene still kickin it, krs one and public enemy still making albums, and mos def and common got their summer albums ready, ghostface, raekwon, slug & ant, nas, everybody still eatin, all dat plus rock the bells; ignorin whats on heavy rotation, hip hop gettin its momentum back.

I only listen to a little rap, but besides moshing and techno, they're the only music I can dance to.

Isn't it ironic how the action taken against his statement only proves his point? I guess that's why it was a full 2 years for him to release a follow up to that album.

yea, only way for him to get his commercial success back is to get alot of ppl to co-sign his album, like jay-z or kanye, but even then he'll only get as big as lupe, i dont think he even cares about all dat, he's on an indie label and got madlib and a buncha indie cats producin da album.

I lost touch with rap music after Dilated People's released 20/20. That thing thing was a joke. It was like they weren't even trying. They sampled their own damn songs to make new ones. Basically, it sucked balls. After that, rap music kind of died for me. I've heard some things since then, but not much has caught my ear besides felt, Lupe Fiasco and Calle 13.
Now I'm just speculating, but rap seems to have been birthed from the dancehall parties out in the parks and the funk they palyed to get people in the dancing mood. That's why rap is fluid, ephermeral, and why its got a groove to dance to as well. Proponents on either side like to say rap was because of them, but can't bear to believe that they both had a hand in it. And one more thing, before you all condemn rappers who are about bling and ho's. I got half a mind to evoke E-40 and Too $hort. Probably the olny two rappers I ain't mad at for being about nothing else. That and ghostridin' the whip. 🤣
Sarcasm just doesn't work over the internet.
