why would i want to bind myself to just one guy?? marriage doesnt sounds like that much fun to me.. too much work to do. we should have fun while we r young 😃 ppl can get married when they r at their 40s too *refers to "sex and the city" * 😃

Thoughts like these make me fear for future generations

Let me join you in that facelpalm.

A lot of you kiddies don't really get the concept of marriage. Marriage isn't just some legal crap that gives some benefits but makes it harder to leave the relationship. Marriage is a promise that you will cherish that person you love forever. You won't give up when any problems arise, you both will fight through them together as one, financial, marital or whatever. Many people don't take marriage a serious before cause it's easy to get a divorce if you can afford it. Before marriage was sacred, and you had better have though about it seriously because it was much harder to divorce. I could go on, but I'd probably ramble and now I fell like an old fart.

too bad you're a guy, if you were a girl i could have fallen for you
🤣

well that aside i totally agree with you, people think of marriage as a piece of paper but it's not (only) this... well i will not explain anything since you did it very well.
I have only one thing to add:

Having a loving wife with who i could end my life and die happy this is what beeing a married couple mean and for me this is true happiness.

Whoops, sorry about that. Okay, I actually did read the thread, but let me try again. What I want to know is if people would still go through a wedding even if they aren't religious and, if so, what the wedding would mean to them.

(And, and I'm with you and KennEH about the facepalm.)

Well, personally, I'm Catholic.

I plan on getting married in the cheapest way possible, if my future bride sees eye to eye with me (which is hopefully probable).

It'd mean that I'd be sharing my life with someone I cared about, regardless of religion.

I'm agnostic so i don't believe in any god but the meaning of the wedding is the same for me in this case sharing my life with only one girl until death do us part (i love this sentence, don't know why) and , but it's only me personaly, ever after, i mean that even if she die i will not try to find any other girl.

This is what i hope for my future.

XD no facepalm for me in regards to aneste's post :3
I think I heavily believe in the idea of consensuality. She had her own opinions and who are we to tell her what is sacred to her etc etc. As long as she's not hurting anyone I'm happy :3

Also, I suppose divorce is easier nowadays and people are more careless getting into marriage, but I honestly believe, sometimes love isn't for forever. The couple may have honestly loved each other at one point but maybe it'd be best for both parties that they separate. So why should we force them into a situation that would make both miserable? I just want people to be happy ;_;
Yes, maybe they should've been more careful when deciding to get married, or maybe they could try harder to make the marriage work out. But honestly, most people don't know when they're getting into a marriage that they will end up separating later. And if they don't want to put the effort into making the marriage work out, maybe they shouldn't be married anyway.

Personally for me, marriage is just a title. The important thing is I love and care for my spouse and my spouse loves and cares for me. That I would do almost anything to make him happy is what's important, not some title that people associate with sacredness.
Edit: And the ceremony is just a celebration of your love :3

PS for the record, I was raised Catholic.

Which is fine, Aneste, but it's just not quite how I think. To me, weddings are special, a wedding means you're forever going to be with the person that you're going to love the most for eternity. I believe in that. I know it's not realistic, but that's my hope for when I get married. So, while some of you aren't crazy about the idea of marriage and some of you don't even think you need it, I want it. I want the huge wedding with the white dress and the priest and all the pomp, even if I'm not religious. To me, it's just how things are supposed to be.

first of all i thought you were 16?? so how come you call me kiddies?
and if you think marriage is the only a way to guarantee that he/she will stay with you forever then you have some serious misunderstanding or you are living in early ages... so while divorces are quite common around, how come you still call marriage sacred?

Because to us (or me, at least), it is sacred. My great Grandparents should have their fiftieth anniversary soon, and that's what I want. A loving marriage that actually lasts until I'm dead.

I agree again.

Now that I will agree with, which is also why I don't think you should just date someone for a year, then go get married.

Because to me, that's just what you do. It might be setting females back by about a century, but to me during the course of your life, you find someone you love and you get married - perhaps even raise a couple of kids. I don't mean that women would have to stay at home all day cooking, but there are some traditions that in my mind should be upheld.

And also... that ring is important to me. In my mind, marriage is still sacred and it still stands for something. It means you're promising yourself. Your emotions, your body, you life... you're giving everything to another person. And it's okay.

so you want to get married because you think that is the right thing to do for a woman?

No, I want to get married because I've found someone that I will love forever. And if I don't ever reach a point where I think that, then I won't get married.
