Let's just say a lot of things are going to stop working when you get Vista... as for the different operating systems, it really just depends on what types of things you want to do.

Windows is for general purposes or for games.
Linux is more for programming/hacking and stuff.
Mac is more for media such as graphics or music and stuff.

Vista isn't THAT bad....I mean sure, it gives me a crash everyone 2.4 microsecond, but it has so many useless functions that doesn't fully work well. The point is, I would stick with Vista until it's heir comes out. 😀

Vista sux royally. Can't even install XP, 'cause I would lose my cover/guarantee for my laptop 😐

back on topic - personally I have a HP and I'm rather satisfied with it. It's good, has a long battery life and knowing that I'm a complete anti talent with computers it survived two months with me, so it's rather resistant 😉

Mmm... for me, IE7 sometimes decides to open up new windows continuously until I end task the whole thing. I stick to firefox...

As for the quality of AMD, it really depends on the specific processor. Usually, a normal user shouldn't experience any noticeable difference when using an AMD or Intel of equivalent stature. The problems might occur because of some design flaw of the model. The motherboard is an important factor, which is why some people choose to build their own computers.

@sweet Don't worry, the battery that blew up was for a robot... although there was one incident of a batch of laptop batteries made by Sony exploding some time ago...

@lockhart how does a warranty stop you from changing software? They'll never know...
