New Poll - Encouraging More Research

This week's poll is yet another one from icassop. It's kind of wordy, but I rather like the topic. I guess it depends a little on the type of series that you read, but even Naruto might encourage you to do some research on how actual ninjas fight or if running with your hands behind you makes you go faster.
You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related)
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903
Previous Poll Results:
Question: Has an opinion or view expressed in a manga ever noticeably influenced you?
Choices:
Yes, in a positive way - votes: 2883 (42.1%)
Yes, in a negative way - votes: 314 (4.6%)
No, but it made me think about it - votes: 2884 (42.1%)
No, I don't look for any deeper meaning - votes: 773 (11.3%)
There were 6854 total votes.
The poll ended: November 13th 2015
We've never had an option win by just 1 vote before...

Historical events. Very rarely I've also looked up certain mental illnesses mentioned, and when I read satire a la Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, cultural aspects and RL personalities. But for the most part it was historical events, old cities, renowned personalities, folklore, etc.
“If running with your hands behind you makes you go faster” is your big question. Lol.
The editorials in the 80s translation of Kamui Gaiden might have some insightful editorials for you. Naruto would have stayed a Genin for life for example as these positions were inherited and not achieved through hard work / nakama power.
The catch all Real life person (celebrity, politician, etc) is my choice as one automatically learns about his or hers place in historical context and the thing or profession they got famous for. I am a history buff and thus research a lot as life is one long learning process. My profession is also research heavy so there is that. The More You Know and all that.
I also read EU/US comics and am a librarian.

Well, cultural aspects is a common subject. In so many mangas, something from the japanese culture appears and it's interesting to know more about it. For example, the first time I read about Golden Week, I went to research more about it. Also, I really like when the translators post a quote or two (even if taken from Wikipedia) to explain a certain cultural aspect.
Religion is another subject that I researched about. You may even say that religion may overlap with culture in Japan, so it's kind of one topic. I also tried to know more about it and find out the philosophies behind the most followed religions there.
Other than cultural aspects, The Tarot Cafe prompted me to research about tarot itself. Nowadays, I think that I should read this again so I can see if my perspective about that manhwa changed, since I now know about that subject. I'm not an expert, but I know the basics.
Rurouni Kenshin made me search about more info about historical events so I could know the context of the manga. Not much of a big deal, though. The manga itself explains it a bit.

I've wondered the answer to that question for years, but I never bothered to look it up because I really doubt it's true...

Sports. I didn't know absolutely anything about baseball before reading Touch.
About the ninja run, I'm pretty sure that having your hands behind the back doesn't really improve anything. Or else we'd see some funny races at the Olympics.
My current top 3:
Fullmetal Alchemist
Pandora Hearts
3-gatsu no Lion

As usual, the most appropriate option is missing for me. It would be "all of the above and more". I wouldn't be able to translate without understanding what I'm translating.

Cultural aspects. I think this poll is too diluted though. Some of these should be lumped together with specifics in parentheses like the locations ones.

Mainly Science and Engineering, as they are my favourite subjects on the list.
They Psychology, as it is another subjects that I find really interesting.
I do researches regarding Historical events and Cultural aspects such as foods, festivals and such.

Although I get interested in whether something I read is true or not, most times I'm too lazy to do research on it. When I read manga that occurs in a historical setting, rather than researching into that historical time-period, I just wish that I could find a historically accurate manga.
I think the things I have taken time to look into are cultural aspects. Like I read a lot of yaoi, so that has made me look into what LGBT rights are like in Japan. I've also tried looking into why Christmas is a romantic holiday in Japan, but haven't really found an answer for it.

I chose Other...
Instead of google-ing the topic in the manga, I "research" on the Manga itself, reading their wikia and such. 🙂
Does that count? ;x

I chose art and music. Mainly because of nodame cantabile which was about music. The main reason is is because it is so easy. Just put on a piece they mentioned while you continue reading, you learn something and it makes the reading experience better. I'd also include food and similar things under this category.
I almost chose other (law), because it is my actual field of study, but I noticed that I was more checking if what they said was correct rather than learning something new.
Science/psychology/Medical issues are also interesting, however the things that are really interesting are too difficult to understand. So don't spend much time there.
So for me the best way to research is if it is easily found, and easily understood. Since more thorough research messes up the reading rhythm/tempo

Historical events for me.
Red River made me want to look up the Hittites, and the Sengoku Basara anime encouraged me to research the characters' real-life counterparts.
