Well I guess I'd have to say that's the opposite effect we were looking for... >_>

I count it, as it's still manga. It's just not the one that's in English or was released in your country (which I'm guessing is the USA).

Well it depends, as see it. If a good chunk of the manga this person enjoys is only in Japan and un-translated, I suppose that's why the person didn't bother with licensed manga.

I only buy manga if i really liked the series, or can't find translations. Why? well they cost close to 20$ here in canada, and for 20$ i can pretty much get two paperbacks novels for the price of one manga (depends), and even though its nice to have it, manga's don't last as long. Now, if they were like, 5-8$ a volume, i wouldn't mind buying 20 of them at once. I think they should really make the older manga's cheaper at the very least. So yea, my one and only main gripe with buying manga normally is: too expensive! >.<

Well, suppose that's about normal for the demographic that manga usually aims for. Not much of a market eh?

Yeah, I buy manga. I'd say books are my main indulgence, and most of the books I buy these days are manga. ^_~

I don't keep them all (unless it's something really special I resell them on eBay) and if manga was less expensive or if I had more money, I'd buy more...a LOT more.

If it weren't for scanlations, there is absolutely NO WAY I'd be reading (and buying) as much manga as I do now. Without scanlations, there are a lot of series that I probably wouldn't have gotten started on because often the descriptions don't really grab me, even though the series turns out to be really good.

I'm sure most of us feel the same way.

Eh, manga seems to be growing further out of the anime and manga fans and trying to bring in the people that maybe aren't with TokyoPop having published manga in CosmoGirl and with titles such as Princess Ai and their New Manga Artist contest. I don't really care about most of manga that isn't produced out of Japan, Korea and China. At most I'll enjoy the art, which is usually a copy of the Japanese style.

And manga is still the same cost as books, but I suppose that's an improvement over the old cost of manga which was about $30 for a volume of Ranma 1/2 in about the 1990s. 😲

*Geez, it's really lousy trying to have a quote within a quote. It just doesn't want to work.
