*Geez, it's really lousy trying to have a quote within a quote. It just doesn't want to work.
Yea... it's one of those things I'll fix someday....

And manga is still the same cost as books
Nah, manga's still more expensive. A nice fat paperback novel that'll take me ~2 hours to read has a cover price of $7-$8, while a manga that'll take me ~30 minutes to read has a cover price of $9-$10. And chances are quite good that I'll be able to find the novel for half of cover price (or less) at one of the local second-hand bookstores, while chances of finding manga there are much MUCH slimmer.
I do find that I'm more likely to re-read manga, though.

I guess I have about 30 books or so. Not only Manga, i actually like the bigger format of the french comics much better. They just cost more ( often only in hard binding ). The US comics in collectors form ( 100-200 pages ) are also good books, but also a bit expennsiv. I hate the way US comics are sold in these 20-30 pages flaps. Manga is actually pretty cheap ( 5-7) euros for a normal book. But, i never really started big time buying because so many series are just to long. I am not going to pay more than my months rent on one piece manga. If i really like a book series ( tnovell type ) the series is at most 5 to 7 books, and you spend much longer reading a real book. It's better Time/money ratio.
When I feel bad about not giving money to the Comicsindustrie i search on ebay untill i find something at about 1/2 new price.
Otherwise i check the berlin comic library, its not huge, but fun.

Yeah, about 8-15 volumes per month lately. Limited cash >_>
We brother and sisters have been collecting manga for 14 years now o_O
I think I can't really count them all. They're all spread all over the house. The shelves, my room (taking up the whole bed, thank god I have two beds in my room), my sister's room, on top of a dusty desk (also in my room), and in some boxes. And thank god again that scans only take hard-disk space. Though the hard-disks are also in a mess <_<

I don't necessarily buy the Amercian licensed version. Though I probably should, though I have used my local library to get the english version. So that's pretty good too.
I do buy the japanese tankoboun. Last count of tanks I had may have been 1500+ I haven't recounted in a while, and I have bought some. This also includes duplicates I think. You got to love used bookstores etc....

Wow, there actually was a topic like this...
I would be really glad to buy some real manga, but sadly enough it's not published in Russia.
We do have 8 volumes of Ranma 1/2 - mirrored and printed on bad paper, but only ~2.5 bucks per volume.

I don't have much expendable income (still a poor college student), but what I do have goes to buying the American licensed versions. I have accumulated about 250 books over the last 2 years. The thing is, I've been buying mostly BL, which is a relatively new market, so I feel I need to support it as much as possible. Plus, it's nice to have a book in your hands.

It's hard to buy manga in Russia since only few titles are released. And this few are old ones like Ranma. So i download it.

какая трагодия! Но здесь у проклатих западных капиталистов, манга растет на деревах.
I won't translate that, because the chance of me not actually saying what i want to say are pretty high.

Indeed they are. You did spell the "western capitalists" correctly though.

For me, it's cheaper to buy the locally published manga compared to the others like Tokyopop or VIZ. But it's still easier to get manga scanlations. Cheaper, too. XD But the manga like Fruits Basket and Negima comes out faster as scanlations, so I download them and buy then once the local publishers.. um.. publish them since they are available. I bought the manga before I started downloading the scanlations so... I just want to have the complete set on my shelf. XD
