It's pretty good, but..

But the filler chapters, man those chapters are like really bad, I mean I know that it's pretty hard to get the story to go on after the main couple gets together but the author could've at least made it interesting.

Other than that the manga itself is decent and it got my attention till I finished with it. Although I would say the fmc is too forgiving at times and some of the things that happen in the story is so surreal that it's definitely something that would happen irl (I'm talking about the premise behind the arc of FMC and her mother-in-law).

The story revolves around relationship interest between Natsumi Okajima (female) and Shoutarou Ninomiya (male), who are currently living in the same house due to fraud. Natsumi has two daughters and Shoutarou has two sons and oddly enough it seems that their children are of similar age.

The behaviour of these "adults" is childish to say the least. I expect this kinda of bad writing for younger couples, but this is for grown adults with kids. The conduct of these adults, including the ones that fawn over them is pathetic. The only two people that seem to get all the (unwanted) attraction are Natsumi and Shoutarou. And the people that go after them, go to absurd levels without shame. It seems they are all idiots and just want drama. Not realistic at all.

The same stupid adolescent cliches occur in this manga but its more absurd it occurs too often and they are adults. Like the idiot female lead: I will just go and have a drink with the man that loves me but I really want nothing to do with him. I will go and have dinner with him. I will go and work for him, but no touching. I will go and see him in the middle of the night because his chest hurts and he said please, but nothing will happen, trust me.

She has the audacity to say she won't betray Shoutarou, after doing all that. The woman needs a damn lobotomy. The man is also a total idiot. If they are lucky they can get two for one deal and both get lobotomised. It seems the Shoutarou is an idiot magnet, but it's my conjecture.

After the first Jezebel disappears, the story just gets worse. Natsumi really is an idiot of epic proportion (chapter 51, 53) but lucky for her, their problems occur in sequence and in my view out of order. I cannot say much without tons of spoilers.

The four evil in-laws, the Jezebels and the President mother, just does not cut it for me. It lacks the seven dwarfs and an evil step mother. Without them, it seems incomplete.

Chapters 51, 53 and 56 cemented my views on the couple. It's hard to forgive the idiocy of these two. Going back to the seven dwarfs, I am serious it really needs them.

The shallow nonsensical drama is completed with the fact the characters have paper thin personalities. Kids are OK, because they are super cute. Completed it because it's already fully scanned. Giving it a generous 4.

The Ninomiya Bunch

Here's the story of a lovely lady
who was bringing up two very lovely girls.
All of them were adorable, like their mother,
the youngest one in pigtails. (sometimes)

Here's the story of a man named Shoutarou
Who was busy with 2 boys of his own.
They were three men living all together
because their mother/wife abandoned them.

Till the one day when the lady & fellow got swindled
And they started living in the same house.
That this group must somehow form a family,
That's the way we all became the Ninomiya bunch.

Joking aside, this was a really lovely story about a man and woman who both went through a messy divorce and then fall for each other. They had their ups and downs and people trying to interfere with what was happening, but nothing mattered.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Natsumi hated men because her husband constantly cheated. Shoutarou slightly neglected his wife because he thought working and providing would make them happy. Well, it turns out Yuri, his wife, didn't want to be a mother and wife so she divorced Shoutarou and abandoned her kids. She was probably the worst person in this manga. The fact that she abandoned her kids like nothing, but then has a new kid showed how much of a raging hypocrite she was. Well, while Shoutarou at first tried to fix his marriage, he bought a house. Turns out it was a real estate scam and Natsumi bought the same house. Well both family start living together and while they have their problems at first, eventually Shoutarou and Natsumi fall in love with each other. It seems like this was a case of both of them had to go through bad marriages for them to end up with their true soul mates and it shows. Shoutarou comes off at first as kind of a nerdy unlucky guy, but Natsumi really changes him for the better. He doesn't come off at that really in the end though he's still a bit dense. He also changes Natsumi. In the beginning, she was much more feminine and I assume that's how she was with her other husband. Well, her mother says that as a child, she was a bit of a tomboy and that personality began to shine. Shoutarou brought out her true personality because she was truly happy with him unlike in her first marriage which seemed to be kind of an arranged thing because her ex-husband's family was rich. All four kids were great (Youta, Rina, Ryouta, and Luna). Both sets became attached to the other parent and it was one of the driving forces that made Shoutarou and Natsumi want to become a family as they were in love with each other. Frankly the way it was being pushed, if it has shown the future, I would not have been surprised if both sets of girl and boy ended up with each other as adults. Luna and Ryo were inseparable and she says it multiple times that she wanted to be Ryo's bride. It shows that Youta and Rina might felt something, too. Rina always got jealous when other girls were around him. Now someone reading this might think it's creepy, but I've never considered step-sibling love bad. Well, this is a story, but not even in real life. Why should you be barred from falling for someone because of the choice of their parents? This story revolves around all of them getting to know each other at the same time, always being together, not just Shoutarou and Natsumi. While the parents fell in love, it wouldn't be surprising if it happened to the kids as well.

This story was very lighthearted, but at times did randomly get dark.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
At one point, all of these guys tried to get forceful with Natsumi. This one guy tried to blackmail Natsumi to be with him. At one part, Natsumi's relatives on her ex husband's side try to get her to leave the house she's staying at and do some awful things to her at one point trying to straight up murder her by pushing her down some stairs to a cellar.

All in all though, it's a lovely story about family and 2 people who had shitty first marriages with awful people that fall in love.

Quite Cute

This was a fun little series, even if it was a bit vapid at times. I like how our main guy is not a complete loser and actually has some balls every now and then... you know eventually. I like the main characters well enough and I think there's a lot of nice sweet moments. Oh and actual sex. One of the only issues I can raise against this series is kind of a big one though, I never bought in on the drama much. Both families are just too perfect, the father in particular has hot women throwing themselves at him left and right and the guy never even considers cheating on his new "wife" for a moment. Nothing ever felt very serious or real, but in the end this is supposed to be a fluffy happy story. An example of this is our main character's ex-wife, who I thought was at least going to get a little bit of closure as a character but she's just nver brought up again. Despite all this I actually enjoyed the story a lot. But ultimately things feel a little shallow, a little too saccharine and sweet, I just couldn't quite fall in love with this one.

Disappointing

Ok, though I skim almost the last half but I still can understand what is going on each chapter

This manga come up with good theme for SoL story. However, the way it progress is not good. Some chapters isn't connect to each other. You can see that by reading a chapter which end with some character getting in problem so you will want to know how it is solved but the next chapter don't relate to the previous one so you may feel a bit down.

That is not the only thing. The role of character is unbalance. The troublesome character just appear to interfere with MC daily life. Those character some is minor, but some is important. However, once the problem is solved. They are totally forgotten. The author never or rarely use them anymore. So it feel they are just plot device so the story can progress.

The last vol is a pain to read. It focus on daily problem just like the start. If those chap is at the start, there is no problem but they are put at the wrong place so it cause negative effect to me.

Rating this manga is a bit hard. It have good starting point that I want to give it high point while the later it make me feel so boring reading repeating motif without any interesting moment (1/2 Ranma use many repeating motif but I don't dislike it because it's fun to read)

too much drama

Way to much drama for my taste. Especially of the misunderstanding kind, and beyond stupid responses to those misunderstandings, all in the name of creating drama. But if the drama makes you disslike the characters, you're doing something wrong, which happened in this manga for me. If 'Soap Opera' was a genre, it would fit this manga perfectly.

I dropped it.

A very sweet romance that everyone must read. This manga is one of my top 5 manga's. My only advise is no matter what anyone may say negative (if such negativity actually exists) you should read the first volume and decide for yourself rather than letting someone else decide. I was a little hesitant to read this but what an idiot I was not reading this sooner. Recommended for anyone in the romance genre looking for constant smiling.

Give this manga a chance

This comment will be quite biased, as a previous commenter said, I'm a sucker for these kind of stories.

I recommend it if you want a heart warming and likable story. Even if the stubbornness of some of the characters is annoying, it all happens for a reason (some times those reasons you need to discover them).

Give this manga a chance.

I'm rating this a 10 because I enjoyed this manga a lot. It's sweet, funny, and has that heartwarming family story. I'm a sucker for those. You should read this manga if you're into Slice of Life. While reading this manga, I thought of a drama I watched before. It gave me the same impression of a happy family ending which is why I fell in like with this manga a lot.

It was an incredibly sweet and heart-touching manga. However, you can tell that the author struggled with finding content to end the series with which is a shame. I grew incredibly attached to the main character and Natsumi. All in all, Orange Yane no Chiisana Ie was a good investment of my time.
