From Vices and Devices:
Bright and early one Monday morning, Shino Yuzuru asks Seryou Touji out on a lark when they run into each other at the school gate. Seryou, who's immensely popular, has the odd habit of going out with anyone who asks him out first at the beginning of the week, then promptly dumping them at the end of it.
"Anyone" apparently includes male upperclassmen like Shino, and as a boyfriend, Seryou is perfect--unfailingly thoughtful and kind. Shino, obviously, has no intention of being in a serious relationship with Seryou. It's not like it's actually love or anything like that... More...

An engaging story

I really enjoyed this story. I bought it based on reviews and I'm glad I did. I've only had it for 1-2 weeks and I've already read it 3 times. I find myself picking it up again almost subconsciously, starting in the middle of one of the volumes and rereading this or that scene...
I feel like it's a simple, understated story that somehow ends up being very touching and, to me, beautiful.
I say 'understated' because in many BL manga that I've read (and manga in general with some sort of romance attached), it seems like many times they're heavy on the narration. When there is a significant event, such as a character realizes he/she loves someone else, most of the time it will straight out say in narration something along the lines of "I love him!" and give all the reasons why. What I really like about Seven Days is it isn't as heavy-handed. There are scenes where there is narration but there are other scenes where there isn't.
If a character realizes he loves someone else, in that page the panels may have no words-- just a progression from far to zooming in, with the entirety of the meaningfulness of that scene in his expression or the non-verbal communication between the two.
They also don't always speak in complete sentences. One character in particular has a tendency to just say what's on his mind, but not the context of it. So he may be thinking about a conversation he had with someone else and make a comment based on that, but the comment itself could seem ambiguous (like "it was just a prank") and without knowing what he's thinking, it could be misleading.
There are a few places where I still am not QUITE sure what they're really saying because they trail off before getting to the specifics but I actually love that about this series. It feels like every time I reread, I understand it a bit more. I was reading too quickly the first time to catch all the subtleties and upon rereading it feels like I notice another meaning to this or that panel. It isn't that the story itself is so deep, but that there are parts that are left a bit to the imagination, and other parts that rely on the reader to understand the characters and connect the dots about what he is really thinking now. It makes it a much more engaging to read.
I have to admit I both love and don't as much love the art. I really like it but there are a few parts where it throws me off a little-- the angles don't seem quite right, inconsistencies in the noses/eyes, their proportions seem off-- but then there's a panel where something hits me as beautifully done, and the women actually look like women and not men in drag-- so overall I don't have any complaints about the art. I think it fits the story.
One thing I like about this story is everyone is human. Some girls only see the surface, some like to tease others. There isn't much thought behind a guy with a guy vs a guy with a girl-- the characters just think in terms of love or like and don't even think to question anything else. And if the story starts out saying a character acts a particular way, it later shows that character acting that way naturally so it makes it feel more realistic.
I really wish there was more to this. I would have loved to read another 7 days, 7 weeks, 7 years-- even 7 more hours in their lives. It's a very nice story about people getting together but if you like to read about characters once they are together, it leaves off before you get to explore that much at all, sadly. I'll hold out hope that magically some day there will be more to read with these two...

This story is satisfying, with decent art. The storytelling is super lacking, however, and don't expect to be astonished, because everything is cliched and predictable. There's never really suspense as to the relationship, because despite the premise, the author is too quick to kill off the tension by assuring us of the feelings of both parties. Still worth a read, but not the life changer it promised to be.

Its like candy...short, sweet and just plain yummy. Its a wonderful read, the plot just flow like water. The artwork is gorgeous. As a critique, there are some bumps on the plot, but overall...i highly recommend it to anyone. Its a story that will just make you melt, and smile for the rest of the day.

The art is free and smooth, the characters are pretty down to earth and really likeable, and the overall plot- the dating for a week- is made believable. Also, what I like most about this manga, is that the story is not over-dramatic and that the relationship progresses well w/i those seven days. Seryo is not some overly emotional and traumatized guy, he is just a guy searching for someone to love in a manner he thinks most efficient; and Yuzuru is not some overly feminine guy who immediately falls in love with seryo after the first day

I like the art, and the story was decent. If you don't take it too seriously its a nice read. It kind of reminds me of shoujo manga because the characters were pretty cliche, there was unnecessary drama, and the main characters fell in love in a very short time frame. However, I liked how she wrote Shino's personality (very headstrong and boyish despite his pretty face), and the art was great so I feel like its a decent read.
Hmm... I don't know why...

Firstly, this has got to be my number 1 at the moment, beating the yaoi and shounen-ai mangas I've read in my life, it will definitely stay in my top 10 for a while but I just don't know why... Why? The artwork wasn't that clean, the kissing scene was too short (duh, coming from a girl who reads explicit yaoi all the freaking time), the story was short (seven days... XD) but the depth...it was amazing... I probably won't remember the uke or the seme's name but I will definitely remember the depth this story gave off! It's hard to portray the struggles of both party when usually a mangaka focuses on either side of the story. But this story was just perfect when it came to development. The seme's trying hard to make the uke understand while the uke is trying hard to make the seme understand! In the end some knots weren't loosen yet but it was a happy ending! It is well written! (If you had to write a story that spans over a week in 3 years, I think you'd understand..)
People who have yet to read this manga but instead is reading my comment, plz get your eyes off this page and on to the first page of this much cherished manga! Go I tell you! GOOOOOOO!!!!

I was searching online of a good Shounen-Ai/BL to read and this one came up on the most read/viewed series so I checked it out.
This series is amazing. I was disappointed that it didn't continue a bit longer, BUT, It was a fantastic read! I was hooked! The characters were fantastic. There wasn't a Uke and a Seme, which was interesting and made the story very addictive to me. I don't know how to explain it.
Also the art is FANTASTIC. This person is my new favorite artist I am reading the other series that she drew for, the title of it escapes me but I am reading that currently, because its ongoing.
Hands down I was very happy with this short yet wonderful series, and recommend it to anyone.
Hope this helps!

I have not gotten the fuzzies in a while, when reading BL lately, but this one totally did it for me. It had complex characters, enough drama to keep me wondering what will happen in the end, and really expressive art. Gah, couldn't sensei just keep on writing about these characters a volume or two more?!
My FAVORITE. ^_^

I don't normally read shounen-ai or yaoi but decided to give this series a shot anyway. I definitely wasn't disappointed. Its a nice short, simple and sort of "clean" feeling series. Very mellow and relaxing. Its also pretty easy to forget the shounen-ai nature of the story, it just flows, the author doesn't keep trying to remind you that they're both boys. It all just feels natural-though almost to a fault. Thats my only complaint with the series. Neither of the main guys ever shows any real surprise despite both thinking they were otherwise straight beforehand.
