From Vices and Devices:

Bright and early one Monday morning, Shino Yuzuru asks Seryou Touji out on a lark when they run into each other at the school gate. Seryou, who's immensely popular, has the odd habit of going out with anyone who asks him out first at the beginning of the week, then promptly dumping them at the end of it.

"Anyone" apparently includes male upperclassmen like Shino, and as a boyfriend, Seryou is perfect--unfailingly thoughtful and kind. Shino, obviously, has no intention of being in a serious relationship with Seryou. It's not like it's actually love or anything like that. ...Right?

I like this story, but I really can't say "It's the best thing ever!" Everyone seems to love it... So I wonder why I don't notice anything special about it?

And before all the fan-girls tell me to "Go back to reading the smutty yaoi you love so much, you b****!" I must make it clear that I infinitely prefer shounen-ai to yaoi: all of my favourites in BL genre so far have been non-explicit or very softcore works. Explicit smut bores me, so the lack of physical affection is by no means the issue I have with this series.

My first thought at the end of the series was that, while it's certainly true that they don't fall in love at first sight, I find it pretty inexplicable why they fell for each other at all, because nothing profound, touching or meaningful happens between them at any point during those 7 days. (In my opinion, Blue Sky Complex handles the "reluctant duo who end up slowly falling in love" theme much better than Seven Days does)

But the biggest flaw, in my eyes, is this: The major plot point regarding Seryou is the fact that he's been pining for his brother's girlfriend for a long time. And yet, the guy doesn't seem to have any problem blowing her off the moment he starts going out with Yuzuru! For someone who's been forever convinced of his heterosexuality, that's a pretty blatant case of Sudden Sexuality Switch -- especially considering how sexually confused and emotionally turbulent teenagehood is for most people. (See Hana wa Saku ka for a manga that handles the straight --> bi-curious --> bisexual theme much more realistically)

And the whole premise of "I'll date anyone who asks me out" is beyond weird, not to mention something that would definitely have caused a lot of trouble for Seryou. But in this case, instead of being labelled as an oddball and hated by all the other guys in the school (as well as by at least a few of the girls he's rejected), everyone treats it as being entirely normal! I'd have been willing to overlook that kind of weirdness in a comedy series, but this is no comedy, so...

I'm not dumb enough to expect 100% logical actions from characters in BL (or GL), but all these little "Huh, what?" moments build up to something that's just...too illogical.

Another con: during the mangaka's attempt to make the characters seem extremely pure, their personalities have disappeared into nothingness. Yuzuru in particular bored me to sleep.

The art is okay, though nothing special. Like in most BL manga, it's very simple and obviously hastily drawn with little attention to background details. But it isn't unpleasant and accomplishes its purpose (ie: conveying emotion) well.

I've only pointed out the faults because most of the other comments have reiterated the positive aspects many times over. I felt there needed to be some balance.

If you like pure, enduring, subtly romantic shounen-ai, Golden Days, Koori no Mamono no Monogatari, Shinkuu Yuusetsu and Silver Diamond are actually better choices, imo.

I came across a youtube video about this manga and it got me curious. The summary seemed good and the reviews were good. But when I started reading the manga, I realised that it was way, WAY better than I imagined. This manga focuses so well on pure love. It's kind of rare to find mangas like this.

It was beautiful, meaningful and captivating! It made me laugh at times and was . . . educating in some ways. (Hint: 20 roses) I wish there was more! A sequel would be lovely! I highly recommend this to anyone who's yet to start reading Boy Love stories! And I recommend it to any fellow fan of BL.

And I HATE that girl, Shino! She's gives girls everywhere a bad name!!

A mature, lovely couple that you can't help rooting for. There's actually a plot and some character development which I love. The art is absolutely gorgeous and I fell in love with the characters and the romance. Fantastic.

I like how the manga chapters are broken by the days of the week. After all, Yuzuru is given 7 days to go out with Touji, a guy who is kinda nonchalant about dating. Little do they know what will bloom during the week they are together. The manga is adorable, and since it is shonen ai, the interactions between the two are fluffy. Anyways, great art, great story, and an amazing couple.

The plot's not completely original and the story doesn't rip out your heart and etc etc, but despite some flaws that I can't really point out it's perfect the way it is. The pace, the development, the length, and the chemistry.

This manga is something I will reread.

I lost count to the number of times I came across Seven Days. I had it bookmarked, too, pretty much since around the time it came out, yet never felt "in the mood" to read it.

Little did I know, however, this two-volume lovely shonen-ai would have satisfied me in its entirety in several different occasions. It's one of those stories simple in its complexity, which doesn't aim at something which it is not, with the right amount of love and drama, and definitely with its well-deserving-of-praise slow heartbreaking moments. It pulls on your heartstrings--and also, sometimes, on your nerves. Funny thing is, although I did feel like breaking in there yelling who loves who and why they were both so pathetic and pitiful in their sweetness, those were definitely not moments where I felt I should just close the damn book because it was all so pointless and stupid. Not at all.

There's a lot of growth and development to go through, concerning the characters, but there's some of that in here already. I particularly loved the fact that both Seryou and Yuzuru spoke to each other and waited and chased after one another. And this was not always like that so in the course of one mere week they got more mature than most BL characters do in a bloody series of nth chapters.

It's a quite sweet, lovely manga we have here, which preserves the warmth and purity of the meaning "shonen-ai" minus all the possible shoujo poopie you may be familiar with--cry-baby, damsel in distress kind of uke, lots and lots of shouting, etc. I liked it a lot.

....kind of manga after reading it that I found myself picking up and reading again, which resulted in purchasing a physical copy of the manga. It doesn't have a plot that's out of the ordinary or revolutionary. The characters though was what drew me in and the flaws that were inherent in the two main characters.

Touji is the dark tall handsome gentle type of guy, who treats each person he's dated like a princess (I say princess since Yuzuru ends up being the first guy he does date prior to that only girls) and puts on whatever appearances the person his date prefers, but at the same time he treats it like a routine, doesn't reveal much about himself and expects everything to work out magically in a week if not completely erase contact with the date of the week (though he doesn't blatantly state...actually at some point Yuzuru points it out). Yuzuru on the other hand is also handsome but more honest and doesn't attempt to fit the expectancy of the people around him. Huge overlying theme I guess would be the whole don't judge a book by the cover and what seems nice isn't so nice [prevalent in both characters].

The story though is sweet and I found their interaction endearing, for example when Yuzuru spots a beauty mark on Touji's eyelid, their first kiss, their first date and how their graduation. There was a definite flow to the story. The art is simple, and kind of airy quality to it, which was nice and blended well with the pacing and atmosphere of the storyline. The storyline seems reminiscent to Only the Ring Finger Knows. Highly recommended though if you want a sweet quick read.

What more can I say. It's definitely a good read if you're looking for a slow, sweet, romance to blossom. Usually when someone recommends something for me to read, I don't look into it (which is kind'of mean) but I'm glad I did for this one. The art is just beautiful! And if you're into analyzing which screen tones were used then this one will definitely make you wanna draw your own manga. I find this manga inspiring as an artist, and as a writer because these two chapters were just beautiful.
