Unnecessarily Dramatic
Rating: 7.0 / 10.0

I know loads of people like this series, so my opinion probably won't be very useful anyhow. Anyway, I was initially intrigued by the truly clever and attentive protagonist -- it is extremely rare to find a female lead so mature in the way she thinks and analyses situations. She is also very attentive, and completely different from any other romance female lead I've ever read about; not only does she think before acting, she isn't naive nor innocent nor bubbly. She is also academically intelligent, hardworking, yet very attentive to social behaviour. However, despite the uniqueness of the main lead, the psychological mind games, countless misunderstandings creating tension and conflict, and sheer immaturity of both protagonists later on led to me losing interest in the series. I suppose I'm just more of a fan of straightforwardness in relationships, and speaking up and actually trying to communicate with your partner if you're concerned about anything rather than just assuming things and furthering the numerous misunderstandings present. (But then again, I suppose this is how romance stories can be drawn out for so long. /sigh) So yeah, basically not really my style due to the unnecessary tension, but that could probably be attributed to how romance isn't really my thing anyway (I just read this hearing about the awesome main character and supposedly "mature" storyline"). If you like romance, strong female leads, loads of tension, manipulation, misunderstandings and drama, then you'd probably love it though.

Great Characters, a Favorite

It took me a few tries to start reading this to be honest, the spark wasn't there at first. At times it was even confusing or too drawn out to follow. But the more you read, the tension between the characters pulls you in and the problems come to life. And for a while now, I've been loyally adoring this series. It isn't cliche in the least, and the conflict is psychologically deep. I enjoy all of the leading characters and their quirky strangeness, and the constant casual comedy that never ceases to make me laugh in a mix of intense seriousness. But from eerie to sweet and considerate to calculating, the way characters are presented is great. It brings dimension and complexity to everyone in the story yet, it's somewhat moving in a strangely sympathetic, relatable way.

I love the main characters, all of them. Even if they're a bit eccentric, even sociopathic, they make for something truly dynamic and real. Wether things work out or fall apart, there's no telling but I will savor every minute of it's unfolding.

This webtoon had been lying around in my wish list for a long time. I decided to pick it up on a whim, and I am glad I did since I loved it! I was initially skeptical since the sequence of events seemed haphazard. However, they slowly gained structure and transformed Cheese In The Trap into one of my favourite series.

The paranoia Sul exhibits serves it purpose quite well, leaving the readers with a sense of mystery. Yoo Jung first came off as an untrustworthy, egocentric character. Though, he still exhibits those characteristics I have slowly started to trust him more. Yes, it might have something to do with his eyes and smile. I completely adore the details the author gives only to his eyes.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
My favourite character in the series would definitely be Bak In Ho. He brings in a comic factor to the webtoon. The interactions between him and Sul never fail to make me laugh and his arrogance makes him incredulously cute. I find the way he always looks out for Sul and talks to Jung with a semblance of normality in spite of "the incident"(which is still a mystery) very endearing.

My only complaint with the webtoon is that the author never reveals what exactly made Eun taek ignore Bo Ra for that certain period of time. It keeps nagging me no matter how hard I try to forget it.
Also I wish they had more scenes. Eun Taek's character had a lot of potential.
EDIT: Thanks to Crumpets and tea for explaining Eun Taek's behaviour to me. Turns out it was because he was obsessed with a game.

Cheese in the Trap is definitely worth a shot. I am looking forward to more of this ^^

It's amazing how the author can make the story so mysterious and addicting. With each flashback you get to know more and more about the characters. And you begin to doubt the characters and events by comparing them to the past and present. You don't know much since it is told by the perspective of the heroine. This is also closer to reality than most manga/webcomic. It really makes you think and at the same time it's very enjoyable. It's a perfect balance of comedy and plot. I really enjoyed this webcomic a lot!

This series in amazing, and as some people have commented, addicting. Fortunately, there are words to describe the genius of this story.
The story, for one, features a calm, perceptive, and intelligent female lead. She's got the book smarts and the street smarts, but it's not as if she goes parading it around. She's also quite funny at times. In a nutshell, she's very real in her intelligence. I loved her basically from day one (of my reading the webcomic), and unlike some readers whose opinions I read, I sided with her from page one.
The story introduces you fairly quickly to the male lead, and frankly speaking, I found him somewhat creepy…. as does the main character. His charm was completely lost on both of us. Her paranoia is entirely justified---she does have grounds for her wariness toward him. In fact, I found him so creepy that at some point, I just really did not want the two to get together. My opinion has since adjusted a little bit, but it's still on ongoing debate whether he's actually a sociopath.
The author does a great job of cultivating the unease that the main character feels, easing the tension during the fluffy, yet oh-so-rare romantic moments, but bringing it back full force as bits of the characters' pasts come to the surface.
The story constantly switches from present-day to flashbacks, though it is primarily in Hong Sul's point of view. The flashbacks explain quite well the characters' motivations and emotions, and are differentiated by a different color background (black, I believe). There's something very simple about the art that I appreciate… and everyone has "normal" looking hair. All the characters feel like normal people as opposed to stereotypes---defined on a degree depending on their role in the story.

To sum up, there's definitely a mystery element to this romance, though I would hardly say that it's part of the genre. The story is crafted in a way that really draws you in precisely because Hong Sul is so intelligent and perceptive. That is, in being of comparable intellect to the male lead, she is able to piece together things about him… and therefore does not remain as uninvolved as she may like things to be. Unlike in other shoujo mangas, there is very little that goes over this girl's head---and because the story is told primarily from her POV, the readers can identify to the very human intelligence that she brings to the table… the same intelligence that causes her so much unease throughout the plot.

I am in love---no, I am OBSESSED with this story: It's got the suspense and bunch of other elements. The love is a bit slow--in fact right now the current english scanlations haven't even gotten there yet.... but, it is so addicting once you get into the story!

I find the main girl's paranoia hilarious---but it's also the driving point of all the suspense. But overall, she is my ideal heroine: smart, funny, perceptive, and likable. I hate hate hate bubbly and ditzy main characters these days...

all in all, I got so obsessed with this thing I ended up downloading a naver translator to read the ORIGINAL NAVER COMIC (which is in Korean)...

This is the first webtoon that I've read. At first I found it very hard to follow, with the switching between past and present so often, and I had a hard time remembering who was who, since the cast, which is fairly large, was introduced all at once, and those korean names are hard to remember ^^;!

Although skeptical at first, I was quickly absorbed into the story within like.. five chapters? And before I knew it I was reading like mad.. I swear I couldn't stop reading even though it was 5AM..

Personally, I love this manga because of the characters. They are all so realistic and unique with their own distinct traits! I also like how they aren't perfect, heck they're all weird and a bit psychotic.. especially *cough Jung. My favorites are Sul, Inho, and Eun Taek. 100 chapters and Sul still hasn't disappointed me. Sure her paranoia is a bit frustrating, but I could absolutely relate since I'm also one who over-analyses things. Also, she's hard-working, strong, shy, yet independent! Some folks said the romance was too slow, but honestly I didn't feel that it was too slow.. after all, this is a josei, slice-of-life manga. And it's a great one too. Should definitely check this one out!

I didn't expect much from this webtoon/manga but after reading around 25 chapters I got addicted!
the characters develop really well and you keep trying to see which is their true self or see what they are going do next... the story keeps you guessing
the story jumps from the present to the the past and back
the way it is done creates suspense and mysteries that continue throughout the story
this is totally recommended by me

It was really confusing to me at first, mostly because I couldn't tell the difference between two important characters, and I didn't realize the timeline skipped around.
But I'm so glad I stuck with it! The plot's good!

This series is more than I expeced. I didn't know this series making me addicted like this. You know what, this series keep coming to my dream two days in row (well, it's personal matter =))) The plot is very great and the author still keep digging up, the art is lovelly with simplity, the characters (oh my) I really love the heroine one and Yoo Jung, I mean even he is like that, you're not find someone like him in the other stories, and the others is realistic enough which is good. I love mystery, and I liked to know what is really going on in the past.
