New Poll - Reading Direction
This poll was suggested by our member Di27. The whole point of this poll is to choose the option you'd prefer in the situation that YOU can choose that the original source reads left to right / right to left. As in would you prefer everything to be always done left to right, just like American comics? Or the reverse where everything is like manga?
The issue is if you could draw and create your own stories, would it read left to right or right to left?

(And I'm gonna bet over 90% of the people who vote in this poll will never understand the actual reason for this...and will instead vote for "right to left" because it's "pure")

No "No preference" option?

thread

» white_moon_ on December 19th, 2009, 1:19am

Or "The way it was originally"?

thread

» white_moon_ on December 19th, 2009, 1:21am

As in, Manhwa would be left to right and Manga would be right to left etc...

thread

» lambchopsil on December 19th, 2009, 11:27am

You guys didn't understand the point of this poll at all...
There was a reason there was nothing like "The way it was originally" or "Don't care"

If 90% of people misunderstand a poll, I would think that suggests something is wrong with the way the question was worded, rather than with the people reading.

Exactly.

There are left to right comics!?!?!

Also I can't honestly answer this.

I prefer my comics right to left
and my manga left to right

that isn't an option so I guess I can't vote.

crap, i meant the other way around

There are right to left comics!?!?!

Also I can't honestly answer this.

and my manga right to left

that isn't an option so I guess I can't vote.

I don't have a problem with reading from left to right or right to left. I'm already picky enough with characters and plot lines, if something that trivial bothers me, I should probably give up reading.

I've been reading manga for 15 years now, from right to left. Even when I'm reading manwha I'd be starting from the right automatically and then go "huh... what oh crap I'm reading it wrong."

thread

» pearlized on December 19th, 2009, 10:17am

same. well not the 15 years part, but i've been reading right-to-left for so long that left-to-right feels wrong...

thread

» SilverStorm on December 19th, 2009, 2:54pm

Yea, I've been conditioned to read right to left. xD

thread

» TiffanyMunro on December 19th, 2009, 8:31pm

It is the weirdest feeling considering you aren't even supposed to be reading that way.

For me it depends on where it was originated from. If it was made in america, I'd want it to be in left to right. If it were made in Japan, I'd want it to be in right to left. Or I'd just want the comic to be published in its original format. smile

I think I'm gonna agree with what most other people here are saying. keep manga right to left (they do that because of the way the Japanese language is read, right? I don't know for sure) and manhwa and American comic books left to right. Just keep it the way it was bigrazz

My preference is left to right. That's one of the reasons I tend toward manhwa. Of course like everyone I like things to be in their original form.

» RayeSesshyFan on December 19th, 2009, 5:33pm

Don't care, as long as it's understandable to read, lulz.

Aw there is no "Don't Mind" option...

(And I'm gonna bet over 90% of the people who vote in this poll will never understand the actual reason for this...and will instead vote for "right to left" because it's "pure")

Okay, so maybe that was exactly my reaction >_<;
HOWEVER, now that I truly thought about it, I would still prefer "right to left" since it's more fun to read that way.

thread

As far as I'm concerned, I prefer right-to-left because holding a book to read in the bathroom is a lot easier that way.

thread

» naikan on December 19th, 2009, 10:48pm

I'd prefer it if all manga, manhua, and manhwa were right to left, personally. Sunday and political cartoons can stay left to right.

thread

» silver-vixi on December 20th, 2009, 4:29am

I find it easier to read books right to left (turning the pages), but comic strips I find easier to read left to right? - so I guess right to left =)

thread

» SiLNeT on December 20th, 2009, 3:07pm

This'll be a one sided poll biggrin

thread

» iamsoocool on December 20th, 2009, 9:51pm

liek someone said above, sometimes when im a reaing a manhwa i may go right to left, just because im so used to it, tehn i relaize wait ots teh worng way smile but overall i dont mind really, i think it makes your brian work harder to read on wither side ^_^

thread

» ayashe on December 21st, 2009, 2:08pm

Right to left. I've never read American comics, so I can't even read left to right in that area.

thread

» morphin007 on December 22nd, 2009, 4:46am

There is a problem with reading direction ?
I have no problem with reading in both way and seriously i haven't about the reading direction as a problem. I just prefer the way of the author, that's all. If the question was about manga only (not manwha or anything else), i would have said right to left, but adding comics make the choice impossible, who would like to read comics right to left ?

thread

» XSeaBassX on December 23rd, 2009, 12:26am

i strongly prefer left to right mainly because i can't get over how you start from the back in manga books.... stupid reason but i like fliping pages the way it is suppose to be done wink

thread

» arstic on December 23rd, 2009, 4:16pm

The only right answer is "in the original format." You're a moron if you would even think to scan and invert western comics so your moronic wapanese ass could read them right to left, and only different types of morons would expect English translators to either deface or demand the original author completely reconstruct entire pages to appease their preference (blade of the immortal).

But if a real option for this poll had been given, the poller wouldn't be able to feel really good about himself.

Huh? I thought Japanese manga is also often called "コミック" (English loan word "comics")? Surprising that people think it's different. bigrazz

thread

» BJDLucifer on December 24th, 2009, 10:45am

Personally I think that manga should be kept original. However the artist meant for it to be viewed, thats the way it should be kept. That's why I'm againts flipping.

For example in Japan people read from right to left, right? Thats how the mangaka format their work. Those manga should be kept in those format.

But I live in England. When I drew my own manga I do it in the Left to Right format because thats how it is here. If a company say, wanted to publish it in Japan, I would be against the manga being flipped in order to meet the Right to Left convention. Because the art would look different. Not what I drew.

Oh dear, I hope I'm making sense. ^^"

So basically, what I'm trying to say is keep the art original. That's what's important.
