Plot/Story

Well, it would be difficult to claim that this manga has a deep and engrossing plot. Its a fanservice manga so dont expect a whole lot of depth.

That said however, the ability to enjoy this manga is huge, its amusing and well drawn.

In the beginning we are introduced to Randou, a hot tempered fighting champion. Within a few pages it is made obvious that he has a huge crush on a girl... then the bus he was on crashes.

One year later our hero wakes up in the clinic of a plastic surgeon who has very kindly recreated his face which burnt beyond recognition, it was a good thing he was carrying a picture. However, it was not quite as good that the picture was of the girl he had a crush on.

So, our hero, equipped with his new face goes out into the city t try and find out what has happened in the past year. His parents, thinking thier sonwas dead have sold thier house and left.

Distraught and with nowhere to go, Randou runs into the girl who's face he now has... Kurumi Rina.

It just turns out that she has a twin sister who ran away from home a few years back. Randou (not compleatly thru his own choice) becomes "Yuna," the sister of the girl he has feelings for.

Thus creating a fine situation for fanservice and fun

Characters

The characters are just fun;

Masashi Randou (Yuna); clearly steals the show with his multitudes of facial expressions, nosebleeds and otherwise un-girlish actions.

Kurumi Rina; Typical quiet shy girl. The object of Randou's affections. Cute... but strangley enough... not as cute as "Yuna" ("Yuna" has pale hair as opposed too black)

Akai Midori; Yes... her name means red green... Anyway, this girl is the flirty type character. Big fan of dating guys... very beautiful. She's not afraid too show off her body around other girls (including "Yuna" - much fun ensures)

Sano Yukie; very attractive girl, has an explosie temper. Not a huge character... but shes there

Kobayashi Natsuo; She has short hair, so my enjoyment of her character is significantly lessened. However, that aside, she is a fun girl. Very active, she fights quite well. Randou trained her for a while a few years back and she developed feelings for him.

Dr Manabe; Saved the best for last here... - This guy is great, he alone makes the manga worth reading. His constant offers to compleatly transform Randou into a woman are quite humourous. Cops a lot of damage from Randou tho... not that he dosent deserve it.

Drawing Style

Absolutley beautiful; very cute characters and attractive backgrounds. The characters are all quite easy to distinguish from each other. Definatley not an "insert face; change hair; new character created" manga.

Two thumbs up for this

Enjoyment

Pure laugh out loud goodness. I swear; no matter who you are you will be able to find some mirth in Randous misfortunes. (unless you are a fanservice hater... in which case, best stay away)

Overall

Ha, go buy it now. Its totally worth it.

Pretty Good by BluezAce on July 13th, 2007, 4:21pm

Wow... a damn good review you got there! Nice job man!
I agreed with you about his manga. Threw away some realistic things (like how does Randoh's voice become similar to a girl @_@), and bam... you got a really funny manga there.
However, the ending of this series was just... terrible. Just like the 1st post said, the ending was a bit rushed. But still this is a worthy manga to buy/read/own/borrow/or else.

bad chacacter development by Anonymous on April 28th, 2006, 11:29pm

randou seems like the same person throuugout the whole story. and so does that twin chick that he likes.
ueck. i read it all i dont know why. the ending was very rushed..and i guess a lack of planning in the authors part. it seemed like it was just wrapped up because it was too long or something..

a review very nicely done. congrats!
haha, i think that the actual menace n this story is the light-hearted dr.manabe. i mean, he's clever enuff to reconstruct randou's face but didnt realise that the person in randou's picture is obviously a girl (& randou's body is of a guy's ~duh). & the way he keep persuading randou to change his gender (tee-hee). overall this manga is memorable & fun, though not one of the best..

Pretty face really was exactly as you put it. The plot goes nowhere but the characters are charming and the art is pretty. I kinda wish that some of the side characters had developed into more important roles though. They seemed like they might have been very interesting if they were given the chance to shine...

Fun but short by Rincewind on June 22nd, 2005, 1:24pm

Well, I enjoyed a lot reading Pretty Face. Its plain and simple fun.
The artwork is really nice, aside the abundant fanservice, the characters are very nice done and the girls are very cute.
The cast is wonderfully done, but some of the characters has not development, because the manga ends too soon.

Really good reading for a lot of laught. Just forget the world and let the laught begin!
